Great, great showing by both Texas bands at Grand Nationals!! Congrats to Flower Mound on their final appearance and three great runs this weekend!! And Wakeland with a 3rd place finish in AAA and High Visual in their class and 5th, (yes 5th!!!) overall in visual in semis and 15th place overall!! Both were 1st time participants at Grand Nats and both had great outcomes.

Everyone has difficult parts of their show. There are some bands with over 100 sets. In the end it all comes down to who performs better. 100+ sets, marching at fast tempos, playing difficult music. That is all well and good but if it isn't performed well then it doesn't mean a thing.

Lake Ridge was tied for 4th or 5th in Marching. They were not 1st. Regardless of all the back and forth there are some really good bands advancing to state and prelims in SA is a brand new contest, with a brand new panel of judges.

I don't think you can look at the placings coming out of the various area contests as any indication of placement at state. After all in 2011 Cedar Park was 3rd in Area D and won and the band that was 2nd in Area D that year didn't advance to finals at state. Performance of the day will win which makes it all pretty exciting.

Everyone had weird ordinals. Wakeland for example had a 11,2,2 in music. Give them a 4 or 5 instead of an 11 and they would have been in 1st. Lake Ridge benefited from going on last in prelims. In fact many bands that went on after the lunch break benefited.

It's too bad that finals in Area B were cancelled. Would have been interesting to see how things would have changed because I'm thinking they would have. Ordinals from prelims were all over the place to put it mildly. Top 5 ordinals scores ranges from a 23 to a 28. Just some crazy ordinals. UIL needs to do something about their outdated judging system. Weird things happening in all areas across the state.... Congrats to all those advancing on and good luck at state!!
