  1. I really don't think bands copying things is real. I think it's as simple as early season performances are a work in progress and most bands probably don't have the sync rights to post an official video. Bands have their shows finalized months in advance of the season, they're not trying to find dirt to copy a woodwind run or flag silk they think will give them a leg up in August months after their show and all the elements were finalized lol. I have never heard an instance of a band "stealing" something from another band. Especially once the season has started.

  3. Thank you. The whole stealing parts of shows makes me laugh every time because it just doesn’t happen. Bands just don’t want a sloppy performance of them online, or they don’t have the rights to have the show online. I remember when I was in school the rule was no videos until our first competition when everyone saw our show on Flomarching either way.

  15. Isn’t this fun? Back to talking about bands and making predictions on how students from the age of 14-18 are going to do in competitions where for most part none of us have seen bands other than our own? 😂 Feel like we need those stock market warnings. What is it, past performance aren’t indicators of future success. Let’s be fairly honest with ourselves….if you aren’t one of the Big 3 at a contest, you could finish anywhere from 4-12-16. But it only takes 2 special marches a contest to shock the world! Yes!!!! This fun. There is almost a crisp in the air of October! Good luck to all the bands!!!

Now as for Argyle, I was slightly dissapointed in how the show opened there was no build-up or cool start. It was still a great performance. Loved the Tuba/Euph duet (heard some Mahler). They have a very strong sound per usual but I expected more after their wonderful show last year. They have a good chance at making a comeback in this area and possibly state. They did not get the results they used to last year at State and GN but this show has the potential to do great. Now for Lone Star. HOLY CRAP, they opened the show right away with some loud sustains across the field. Very good work by winds and perc. Visually it is not the most interesting so far but I find it cool they got some of their props finished in August. Their second movement sounds a lot similar to 2024 but I am not going to be nitpicky and judge it. Although I prefer their opener from last year so far. The woodwinds are playing great as usual. Now for Emerson, this is something new... definietly need to see it after some more work but I love the production so far. The theme has potential to go so far. Could not find much to comment on for this. Now for Melissa, WOW this is not the same program from last year. They have so much more improvment from last year. Although I saw some visual discrepancies, the opener was pretty and the second movement was pretty cool musically and visually. I wonder if that M stands for Melissa. They are already so much better and I cant wait to see the full production!

  26. With the new videos out and considering how these bands could improve, any changes in predictions? There are for mine: 1. Marcus 2. Wakeland (Could be Coppell) 3. Coppell 4. Prosper 5. Lone Star (Trust me they will be fire) 6. Wylie 7. SLC (Interchangeable with Wylie) 8. Braswell 9. McKinney 10. Rockwall (Could go up or down) 11. RockHill (Could Definitely be higher) 12. Forney On the bubble: Forney, RockHill, Lebannon Trail, McKinney North, Reedy Again this is just from what I’ve seen and how I think bands will clean up.

  27. MAN pasadena memorial has a lot on the field regarding choreo already, their sound is big and although it needs cleaning i can see it posing a threat already. One thing i can say though is that it is noticeable that shadows are in and from what i can tell it is ruining the cleanliness of the show a fair bit, but once they’re out and it gets cleaned, i could see this being a genuine threat And shadow creek is not falling behind either, their opener is looking REALLY good for it being this early in the season, they also project quite well and im very excited to see how they place among the rest this year

Ive seen some of the intros this year, and I dont want to make a prediction, so Im going to say something I like about each group so far Hebron: Visually and musically much more interesting than the past 2 years, feels very fun and lighthearted even in the more intense moments, VERY HIGH demand in the drill. Flowermound: Very similar to last year, going to be an extremely strong year for them and will probably win visual. Marcus: Holy percussion, and very entertaining music all around. McKinney Boyd: Definitely their strongest start ever, visually engaging and musically more intense, feel confident with my earlier prediction of 5-7. Wylie East: I like this show theme and execution much more than last year, brass have a strong book. McKinney High: Only saw visuals, but was a step up from last year, music being from one source could go well or poorly for them. Denton Guyer: Really liked the music, I dont keep up with them much but they look and sound pretty good. Little Elm: Really entertaining show and a major step up in content all around, could maybe see them in finals in the 9-10 slot. Plano Sr: I like the visuals this year a lot, and could definitely move up some spots in WW and percussion

  34. The stream cut out on me at the end, but HOLY EAST!!!! Very mesmerizing pre-show. The trumpet soloist was NAILS on the Mussorgsky! Great sounds coming out from the group already! When this gets clean, they may give their neighbors to the west a run for their money 👀

  35. My thoughts listening to it. Wow. Just wow, obviously not as clean but when it is it will be great. Great Preshow body movement. Good opening hit, could definitely work on keeping their volume consistent. Woodwinds going crazy in that feature. Great brass feature right there, will obviously need more time to clean up, but they are killing it. Amazing Job Wylie East, Area J watch out.

  37. My Class Predictions: It is to early for me to make full finals predictions so here are my dream class champs. Class A: Whitesboro - Not much competition here but believe they will come out on top. Class AA: Melissa - Compared to Liberty their theme this year is more abstract and unique and they recently got the former head director from Keller Cen10 so they might have an awakening. Class AAA: Wakeland - they own AAA at Prosper and always have some good show in the making. They have a good chance at winning overall. Class AAAA: Marcus - compared to the other schools here, Marcus tends to score better although Coppell might come around at finals and take the win.

  44. Unfortunately when it comes to travel to contest, especially for outside state programs who have to make a choice between traveling to BOA SA or BOA GN, they're going to pick GN or another contest that's easier to travel to. To put the distance in perspective, even the closest cities outside of Texas, the round trip drive on buses would be a minimum of 10 hours, (5 there and 5 back) if you hit zero traffic there and back. Cost of travel, housing, etc. is just so high now that doing a single day even with short travel to a contest is WELL OVER the 15K mark when you start adding up the cost of feeding students, buses (don't get me started on charter bus costs), trailers or semi pulling if you're a program fortunate enough to have one, etc. When you're a group from out of state that number goes up exponentially due to the fact that you must have buses for more than one day, hotels, etc. Additionally, and I know this will come across a little pointed, but unfortunately there are a lot of staff at schools outside the state that have the mentality of, "Why travel all of that way and pay that much money to have no chance at even coming close to touching the top 30." I know it's a bit of a fantasy world of mine but I wish there were some sort of an endowment, financial assistance, something that would help groups to travel, perform, and witness in person the artistry and performances from other bands around the country. It can be such a surreal and different experience for those kids from programs outside the state to have the opportunity to witness groups like Hebron, Vandegrift, Rouse, The Woodlands, etc. in person. If I ever win the lottery 🤣 you'll all know since BOA will be announcing a giant Donation and assistance program out of no where for groups to be able to perform at contests outside their home state - but I know I'm living in fantasy land 🫠

I either did not realize it or I forgot, but in terms of UIL competitivity CH has been at the top of their game since 2019 or so. That's where all of their state appearances are concentrated. I knew they made BOA SA finals and/or were on the bubble for that a handful of times in the mid-to-late 2000's, and so always assumed they had made 5A UIL state at some point around then. But that was back when UIL state alternated, and it looks like they had their stronger years on non-UIL seasons. Anyway, it probably doesn't meaning anything about upcoming season scores, but it does give me a different perspective on what it means for their program to be and have been competitive for a state spot in this area the past few years.
