Xenon Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 Mandarins were really cool. Starting with Festive Overture and then going on Latin on us. Simplifying the drill a lot has really helped their sound. Quote
Xenon Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 Following in the recent tradition of awesome Troopers shows, this West Side Story show is really exciting and doesn't disappoint. (What's with all the WSS this year??) The drill needs a lot of work, but the musical design is awesome and I personally like the flow of this WSS show better than the WSS offering from the Holy Name Cadets. Quote
Xenon Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 Blue Knights showed off their excellent body moves as is their signature. The show was exciting and flowed well, but I'm not sure about the drill design. Quote
Xenon Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 Haha! Bluecoats is bringing out some great classic drum corps flair with a straight forward in-your-face show that is just popping all the time and never lets you out of the groove. Quote
Xenon Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 SCV brings an extremely bold concept to the field. A straight transcription of a well known classical piece. Well, basically straight, mostly just edited for time. Appalachian Spring is amongst one of the most open and exposed pieces to play and to put it out on the field without all kinds of typical field-show flare in the middle of a huge stadium just exposes it more. But SCV doesn't care, they just bring the beauty forward without a hint of struggle. I just wish the transcription were a little more true on some of the chords. Quote
Xenon Posted June 28, 2009 Author Posted June 28, 2009 Blue Devils. Wow. Wow. I really think this show is going to win it all at the end of the season and that says a lot considering I'm not much of a BD fan. This show was jazzy and cool and in-your-face and really moved the whole time. They just had a look and feel of complete and utter confidence out there and really made the field theirs. My only disappointment is that the brass didn't do a chair dance routine with all the folding chairs they brought out but at least the colorguard did. Quote
