MaverickBand15 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Does anyone want to go into Music Education like me? Quote
barisaxy08 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 +1 i just kinda figured i have many different talents and things that i can bring out if i was to become a music director in the mere future. being a music director would include being able to: * maintain order and organization * dealing with multiple situations at once * being able to teach a diverse group of kids to do the same type * be brilliant and innovative towards the way you teach music * have an artistic way of thinking * create an environment that makes memories for hundreds of kids and i believe that i would like to be able to do all that naturally Quote
bonepit06-07 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I also have a mindset to begin pursuing my own career in music education Quote
sourpoint Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 yes, very much so. where are you considering college? Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I don't want to be a band director but I do want to teach in some capacity. I'm doing music performance right now and I plan on teaching lessons in the future. I also might be teching with a local marching band either this year or next Quote
borchnork Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 I do. Simply because I know a composition career won't exactly pay the bills. But I'd rather not do marching band... although, I already have my future bands marching shows for the first 4 or 5 years already planned out music wise. and I also have concert UIL shows picked too. =] Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 I am looking at the smaller schools like University of Houston, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington....and of course the not small school...The University of Texas at Austin. Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 QUOTE (MaverickBand15 @ Oct 1 2007, 08:20 PM) I am looking at the smaller schools like University of Houston, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington....and of course the not small school...The University of Texas at Austin. Well as far as music schools, I wouldnt put UNT in the small school category at all. ITs one of the biggest music schools in the nation Quote
Skippy Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 The music school at UNT is the biggest. As far as university size, it's not nearly as big as UT. Maybe that's what he meant. David Bertman, Eddie Green, etc. from U of H are the most brilliant minds that I've ever seen, as far as music education goes. I plan on doing graduate work there. Would have done undergrad as well if I could have. Quote
MaverickBand15 Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 i heard the campus at UH is not very nice....i have a friend going there right now....and haha i did mean the size of the campus. UNT would be a great school to goto. I really like the percussion guy at UTA though also. Quote
sourpoint Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 yeah, UNT is awesome. SHSU also has a great music ed program Quote
HashBrownJM Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Texas State University is working out great for me, and I'm pursuing music ed. Quote
Arabella Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 I want to do music education and teach elementary students wind instruments. I have a friend in Montana who started his instrument in fourth grade instead of the usual 6th that my friends and I started in, and he was an amazing saxophonist. I think it'd be cool if more elementary schools had wind programs, rather than just the basic elementary theory program-type things. Quote
