stinkyletterman Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 what if poteet doesn't make state? will this effect area b? Quote
BugWub24 Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 A lot of movement for this area next year. Here's what we have going on in terms of realignment: Moving up to 6A: Red Oak Moving down to 5A: Garland, Mesquite, Rowlett, Lancaster Moving down to 4A: Kaufman, Jacksonville This kind of opens up the area, but not really, as the area will continue to sit at 4 state advancers, unless of course a few of the Dallas ISD bands get 1s. Finalists for 2026 should be, in no particular order: Poteet, North Mesquite, Lakeview Centennial, Highland Park, Garland, Mesquite, Rowlett, West Mesquite, Mount Pleasant, and Terrell. The addition of Garland, Mesquite, and Rowlett will make things very interesting here. Mesquite was the higher scoring of the three last year, and should do pretty well here, but I wouldn't be surprised if either Garland or Rowlett are pretty close to state as well. LakeviewCentennialMello Posted Thursday at 04:20 PM Posted Thursday at 04:20 PM My list of top 10 1. Poteet 2. LC 3. NM 4. WM/ HP 5. WM/HP 6. Mesquite/Rowlett/Garland 7. Mesquite/Rowlett/Garland 8. Mesquite/Rowlett/Garland 9. MP 10. Texas/Terrell Quote
LakeviewCentennialMello Posted Friday at 05:54 PM Posted Friday at 05:54 PM time to predict state bands 1. Poteet/NM/LC 2. Poteet/NM/LC 3. Poteet/NM/LC 4. up for grabs (the colored text is what I think the top 3 placements will be) Quote
BugWub24 Posted Friday at 08:59 PM Posted Friday at 08:59 PM Currently, the TMEA/UIL realignment website shows Garland and Rowlett as 6A; this is after they finished up district shifts between regions. I will put them as 5A in these early predictions, and put in parentheses who would be there if Garland and Rowlett choose to compete in 6A: 1. Poteet 2. Lakeview Centennial 3. North Mesquite 4. Highland Park 5. Mesquite 6. Rowlett (West Mesquite) 7. Garland (Mount Pleasant) 8. West Mesquite (Terrell) 9. Mount Pleasant (Crandall) 10. Terrell (Naaman Forest / South Garland) There is a good chance that with the bands coming down from 6A, we could see 5 bands go to state if some of the Dallas ISD bands can start seeing some improvement; Molina seems to be on the right track. I think you could make an argument to put Mesquite over Highland Park. If Naaman can get a 1 (which they probably should've this season), they should be a dark horse area finals contender. Quote

Opting up only affects sports not band Quote

Opting up only affects sports not band Actually, according to UIL music contest rules, when a school opts up for athletics, any of the music programs in that school (not just band) have the option to either opt up with athletics or remain in the lower conference which reflects their enrollment number. Most if not all programs do the latter; it’s just not common at all for music programs to opt up (for example, DeSoto). If what the music realignment website currently shows is in fact correct, then we are seeing a pretty big change from that standard. Quote
Idkwhattoputhere Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago If Garland and Rowlett do End up moving down, I think state is anybody’s game. I think Garland and Rowlett are bands that are seeing some improvement in their program, I really do believe they can score high, making this area even more interesting… Can’t wait to see more possible state spots open up and more importantly what show themes all the schools are Having !
