Does it seem unlikely that maybe 30 bands could qualify? That would make this a 12 finals and 6 to state area.

There’s 31 bands in this area so technically there could be a 12 band finals and 6 to state but that’s very unlikely as a lot of FWISD bands will probably get 2s or worse. Arlington Heights and Paschal are really the only locks for FWISD. If only 1 band fails to get a 1 then there would be a 12 finals/6 state so there is very little room for error here.

True, just saying that as last year 29 of the 31 bands qualified for area, which leaves possibilities for the last 2 to make it.

Yk lets be honest here so here's my predictions
1st aledo
2nd cen10
3rd CH
4th midlo
5th richland
6th azle
7th grapevine
8th chisholm trail
9th granbury
10th Saginaw
I also predict this area will be taking 4 bands this year and polytechnic will make area.

Polytechnic didn’t advance. Saw them today. I enjoyed their show, but it’s hard because they’re so small with no visuals.

Off topic, I’m sorry, but was anyone at the Region 30 contest today between 10:15 and 12:15 and see a Silver Ford Explorer get hit in the parking lot?  Someone hit me and left no note.☹️ The police are looking at the cameras, but I thought I’d reach out to some people who may have been there.

Sorry to hear that, hope all gets sorted out!!

Yeah. On the page it also said that they randomized the list 9 times to get this order. I thought that was a little weird.

So I'm guessing this isn't a normal thing, who is in charge of that? Can we voice our concerns somewhere?

Just went back to the draw order and it looks like they removed how many times they randomized the list, the date they did it, the time, etc. Very fishy🤨

My rankings after this weekend of competitions!

1 - 3: Aledo, Midlothian, Cen10
I honestly don't even know whose gonna come out as this area's champ anymore, Midlothian was only 1 point behind Aledo in finals, and took music in prelims at Waco. I wouldn't count Cen10 out in the race for 1st as well, they've looked strong all season long as well. And Aledo is of course doing Aledo things, but I don't see them getting 1st all around.

4 - 7: Grapevine, Richland, Birdville, Colleyville Heritage
I'm really on the fence for who will that the last two state spots. I think that CH is back in contention for a state spot, though its hard to tell with their results from St. Louis. Grapevine has looked super consistent this whole season, and Birdville has looked good this week too. Even if they haven't competed this weekend, I'm sure that Richland has been improving as well.

8 - 10: Azle, Chisholm Trail, Fossil Ridge, Saginaw, Brewer, Joshua, Creekview, Granbury, Cleburne
Again, the finalist pool could literally be any one of these groups. Just comes to show how competitive and talented of an area this is.

after birdville ch could possibly be in the 8-10 range but depending on how theyve used their time since birdville and within these next two weeks they could possibly sneak back into that 4-7 range.

I’d even include Arlington Heights in the 8-10 range. They beat Creekview at Springtown and won in prelims over Joshua and Brewer. They are absolutely in finals contention.

Fossil Ridge beat Colleyville by 3 and a half points at St. Louis. May have to be on the lookout for them!

Here's my ranking at this point in time:

1. Aledo (we all know it)

2. Richland (show is very very clean and the brass balance is incredible)

3. Cen10 (brass is cleaner than normal, but show still not as challenging as richland)

4. Midlo (very cool music writing, but balance was a tiny bit interesting the few times I have heard them)

5. Grapevine (super clean show, really challenging brass and woodwind parts)

6. Azle (always good but not necessarily a UIL show. Always more successful at BOAs)

7. Chisolm Trail (super impressive show)

8. Saginaw (also very impressive)

9. Granbury (Granbury is returning to 2019 levels of skill and awesomeness, they're on the rise for sure)

10. Brewer (very impressive brass feature, maybe even better than the 2022 show)

I am curious what happened to Colleyville Heritage after the great year that they had last year. But anyway, the new UIL content score will take up a fourth of the band's overall score. This will grade them on the difficulty of their show, which could have an effect on the placements of usual state contenders and everyone else. This year is a really good year for all of the schools in this area, and I can't wait to see what happens.
