I just saw the full prelims recap and this is outrageous. 
 

First off congratulations to all the students who performed today, I’m so glad you were able to further your music education and make memories for a lifetime. 
 

One of the judges broke a rule and put a tie in between two bands in his scoring, and pretty much scoring was all over the place. Was this the 10 we needed to finals? Pretty much kind of. The order though is questionable.

The percussion judge I commend for his scores being the most accurate.

I’m completely shocked about Foster. I had them as a lock for State. I saw that show earlier in the season at BOA South Houston and it was outstanding.

My only guess would be yall got screwed over by the extremely early performance time. But I don't see how that alone would have been enough so I really do not know.

A tale as old as time tbh, sometimes I kinda just shut off when it comes to UIL and focus on hoping kids feel proud about their performances and the season. I just start to focus on other competitions especially with how chaotic judging can be with uil.

you guys deserved SO MUCH BETTER, i genuinely had yall in my prediction for state because yo uguys were up to some good stuff. this area has some weird judging because i looked at the sheet and it makes no sense. my heart goes out to you guys

It’s the sum of the 5 judges placements, which is how the bands are ranked.

 

Example:

Music 1 - 3rd

Music 2 - 3rd

Music 3 - 2nd

Visual 1 - 2nd

Visual 1 - 5th

 

Your score would be 15 (3+3+2+2+5)

I have to say I am disappointed that Foster is not in finals. Watched their prelim performance and it looked so clean. Those students brought it all and sold me, first time I have seen their show and was hoping for another look. Wishing all finalists a great run tonight.

The brass judge put Brook and Austin in the same placement which isn’t supposed to happen but can. 
 

and some of the bands had odd scores like 8,5,17,7,12

But I think I was too exaggerate because this is an every year thing I think this is the correct finals bands absolutely (well except foster). I just hope we can get more consistency here in finals

Not publicly but after Pearland is done here and results are announced then we can see it also darn DAWSON is so fire but let’s see what Pearland does here 

They are actually FR neck and neck from prelims scores it could go either way

One thing to remeber, the recaps are supposed to crazy, there are now 4 different sheets that judges are using. If you see something crazy between music judges, that is likely because there is a difference between levels of performance.

It's not crazy for a group to have really strong brass and woodwinds and poor percussion, for example.
