As a Foster drum major, I really appreciate your take on our show. However, while I know we can turn some heads at Area, we gotta keep in mind that BOA scores are WAY different than UIL. It all depends on the run, but we are literally cleaning everything over here so we will fight to the death for that state spot.

Dawson just has a show that feels a little friendlier to the area sheets than Pearland, and they’re just a wee bit further in progression.

I just looked at the score sheet from finals and prelims. Dickinson and Foster were both really close in scores, and SFA’s score dropped considerably from prelims to finals. Dickinson’s also dropped somewhat significantly while Fosters stayed relatively same. I think this shows consistency from their band members and hopefully they can clean it to be in better competition to make a state spot. Although BOA judges very differently compared to UIL and UIL is changing the judging system to be identical to state. Anything could happen this year. I think 3-5 placements will be a bloodbath this year.

Does somebody know the specifics on the tie rule at UIL, because I know there’s a very very specific scenario where if it happens they take one more spot to state/finals

Are you talking about the bad judge rule? If two music judges and one visual judge have you ranked 3rd or higher, you automatically advance to State no matter what. I think that’s the only way to get an extra band that wouldn’t be in top 5.

I was talking about like if there’s a tie what happens, but I just read the rules and it says that in event of a tie they just take the judges preference on which band had the highest placement amongst the judges. 

Like in 2021 with the three way tie between Dawson Austin and Dickinson for the last state spot.

If the tie still stands then the music judges are the final decision, and if after that then that requires a UIL administrative decision.

This and the bad judge rule are like almost impossible to happen, but usually ties are broken.

1. Pearland (Obvious)

2. Dickinson/Dawson 

3. Dawson/Dickinson

4. SFA (Love their show this year with all the bright colors)

5. Foster (This saxophone solo is my favorite)

6. Clear Brook (I really like their percussion this year)

7. Clear Lake (Their show theme is cool)

8. Clements (Have not watched their show unfortunately)

9. George Ranch (They have grown so strong this year I think they could make finals, but also could swap with fulshear)

10. Pasadena Memorial (I like their music)

1. Pearland/Dawson (I absolutely love both shows just a tough decision 💔)

6. Clear Lake (Could honestly switch for either 4 or 5 depending on their run!)

7. Foster (absolutely love the soprano sax solo)

8. Clements (haven’t seen a recent run from them since Alvin comp)

9. Pasadena memorial/George Ranch/Deer Park

(these are just my rankings please don’t be offended and are based off videos I’ve seen most recently so if a band is ranked really low that’s because I haven’t seen a recent run from them.)

(Also a comment, two dark horses here imo George Ranch and Deer park. I feel if George ranch has a really good run they could scratch finals and after attending Region 19 uil Deer park has probably been under looked for a while for this year and could possibly reach finals or either miss it by a place or two.)

Controversial statement - I feel the hype with PM is dying off and might not reach finals this year, because there was a comment in this forum not to long ago saying how we really don’t what section to pay attention to in certain parts of the show and I totally agree with it. It’s sort of all over the place and could clean it up.

3: Dickinson(last I saw them they looked great)
4: SFA(Great show but last I saw them it wasnt clean)
5: Clear Brook(The visitors will be great if they have a great run)

I would love to see PM advance to state even if they likely won’t pull it off, their concept and execution is genuinely so cool. I would also like to see DP in finals for once. I completely think shadow creek has a valid chance this year, and I’ll try to post a prediction by tomorrow. even so, all the potential finalists and state bound bands is so hard to come to a true conclusion.
