Speaking of new judging, how does everyone feel about it?

Alot of inconsistency this season so I still cant tell where everyone should be but overall it produced a lot of mind boggling results that probably wouldn’t have happened with the past judging

Freeman made it to state in just its second year. I feel like once Freeman moves up to 6A either in the 2026 or 2028 realignment. it’s definitely going to shake up the area with a potential new finalist!

Agreed, a lot of this is interesting to me in terms of where programs got scored. I didn’t think Jet would be scored that low? I also didn’t think the same for Cy-Ranch. Langham had stayed right around where I would’ve had them but an interesting night. I know over in Area E foster didn’t get the best end of the stick either.

I think the system is way better than before having dedicated judges to each music section but I think they should have kept the switching of judges from prelims to finals.

Here's the added results of some of the area bands over the past 3 years so we can see how rankings have fluctuated

Would like to share that the percussion judge said JET's perc writing "lacked nuance and uniqueness" and felt "blocky and unfitting." (placed JET 18th in perc)

If you're gonna judge a contest, especially one like UIL, you can't be opinion based. It's not fair to the performers on the field who are making the best of what they're given (not saying I agree with his critiques). I don't see much evidence of a new judging system at all. Most things seemed to have remained the exact same as they have every other year and this contest is still equally as unpredictable.

Interesting...heard similar comments from someone in another Area. If I have the story straight, they placed 2nd-3rd (behind Bridgeland in prelims and finals) at Lonestar, Colin McNutt was the judge. Then at UIL Area received a strange 11th place score. Practically the same bands.

I think some attention needs to be given to Cy-Park, they didn't really get as much hype this year as they did last year yet they jumped up what, like 8 spots? if anybody here has read the biography of their head director they should know that their band is capable of some crazy things, if they can get in a flow of getting better every year. They got 11th and that was with their percussion scoring far worse than any other competition that they've been to this year. Cy park may have had some difficulties building up at first but if they can build on the momentum that they created this year I would not be incredibly surprised to see another bridgeland type level of growth

Alright, since we can't bet on bands here, is the over/under for how many pages the forum will have one week after the area contest.

If you’re talking about woods being 1st in 2024, they were 1st by score, but due to a UIL Rule, Bridgeland was named area champion due to more judges placing them above Woods

Correct. Unfortunately they never corrected the list.
