After Jordan successfully making 1st at the Gulf Coast Classic and surpassing Clear Brook, I’ve decided to put Jordan into the top 3. Seven Lakes and Jordan could switch, but it 50/50 right now 

I also want to note that JET placed 7th at BOA Waco, surprisingly finishing ahead of several 6A state contenders such as Timber Creek and SFA.

5th in prelims with an 86.325. JET seems to perform better in preliminaries so far, but we will see where they end up. Jordan over 7L and Cy-Fair seems a bit far fetched to me. We saw last year that KMF is in very few ways a good indicator of the late-season, and many many things can change between then and Area.

I really hope this is the year Jordan makes it. Getting to State if a huge growing experience for an up and coming band. 
 

I just think they will be more 3-6 range IMHO. Their show is clean and pretty extreme on love/hate when watched, but it’s simpler than a lot of other Area schools and I think Area is where than can possibly catch up to them. They are on a few week high though and I’m sure that has built their confidence. 
 

5 spots seems like a lock at this point, and JET proved they can put in a performance capable of top 6 against some great schools today. 
 

I wouldn’t sleep on them or Cinco slipping into the 5th spot from one of the schools we expect to make it. I’m rooting for Cinco just a smidge harder than Jordan because of them missing last year when we lost a State spot. 
 

Not ready for my final predictions until after Tuesday, but could this be the year we get 4 KISD State schools? It’s not the craziest possibility. 
 

My only prediction at this point is I think we will see a 2 3 split among the regions. Just that statement alone means a couple good bands are going to miss out.

Correct, anything can happen from today to Saturday. I say it’s hard to rank Jordan since they haven’t been to a contest where they’ve gone up against Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, or Cypress Woods this year. I think they’ll at least be in the top four, and who knows the new judging sheet could affect Jordan well!

Jordan having one of the best color guards and vis and in my opinion a top 4 perc in the area behind the likes of (random order but from vids) cy woods bridgeland tompkins and impecable brass moments in my opinion will make them get into state(hopefully comfortably), though saying they'll go past seven lakes is tough since we haven't seen their full show judged(im hearing they didn't perform all of it at kmf). Hopefully GE/content doesn't screw them up like last year cause I would say this years show is a little cooler than last years(even though last year the opener and closer were absolutely fire).

What aspects of Jordan's show seem simpler to you compared to other schools? Just curious, not trying to sound offended

I’m a fan, with subjective opinions. Certainly not meaning to offend, I meant my comments to be complimentary of Jordan. They have certainly improved upon last season.

That being said, the music is my biggest personal uncertainty with their show. As a person watching most of these schools in person this year or at the least on video, their music doesn’t have as many “reach out and grab me big moments.”

The show is clean and well performed, and I think their success has been well deserved.

But, I see most of the other contenders that have bigger musical “moments” during their performances. Technically and scoring wise I’m no expert. I’m just giving my opinion from the stands on how it’s received. 

I love the heads, some people don’t. Everything is “very good”, I think they need at least one aspect to be great at Area. And it’s very possible. (I have not seen video of their performance yesterday, to compare to a week ago)

if history is any indicator, the chance of 6 schools is basically nil.

Its not unlikely, the schools at 27 jumped from 12 last year to 15 this year, so who knows if they jump from 12 again in region 23, and i just wish that they allowed 12 finalists for this area

I'd LOVE for there to be 30 at Area and 6 State spots, which also would be 12 groups advance to Area finals! But based on previous years and groups performances that that I've seen & found online this year, I'd say it's about a 99% chance of there NOT being 6 State spots. I'm personally anticipating 27, maybe 28, groups advancing to Area which means 5 state spots.

Never really thought about it until looking at results from this past weekend around the state, but this is one of the Area contests that has multiple groups that are BOA Regional/Super Regional Finalists. I want to be clear this isn't an attack or diss on any other Area contests, but just an observation that Area I is quickly turning into a level of competitiveness that is seen only in some of the other brutal Areas like in Lewisville, Leander, etc. not only to make it to State, but even just to make Area Finals.

In any event, this is going to be a ridiculously good Area contest this year and I can't wait to watch it all on Saturday!

Yes, it’s too early to panic about the weather. One source shows 2% chance and another shows 57%. The first source is almost always right so I’m gonna go with that one!

There is a backup day on the schedule. But forecasters always overestimate rain.

It's really hard to forecast something a week out, especially something as small as a little bit of rain.

I've heard rumors that Area Finals will take on a top half/bottom half performance schedule based on Prelims scoring. I can't seem to find any official information anywhere regarding this, so if anyone has something concrete that could either verify or debunk this rumor that would be awesome!

Area & State Finals is split into top/bottom half starting in fall of 2024.

The official documentation is under a past marching band committee meeting agenda notes on the UIL website.

Cy springs last year was one of the last performing bands. We were stuck on the bus for at least 3 hours I think. Fun times 🤪
