bariphonium
I play the baritone and the euphonium........... >_> OK, now that the corny joke's done... I switched from trumpet, and every now and then I'll pick one up again. 'Tis always fun to reminisce.
Claritone
ive played clarinet for 5 years and this summer im learning baritone/euphonium for next years marching season. ive been playing for about a week now, and its not that bad so far even though ive mostly just been messing around
TRtrumpet
I play trumpet for marching season, and alto sax for concert season. In next years show i'll be on trumpet, but theres an alto sax solo that my director wants me to do so it looks like i'll be playing two insturments in next years show! ClaireAnnette07
I play Bb clarinet, but I REALLY want to tryout on 5A Eb clarinet next year. I figure that since we're forced to tryout on the 5A track next year and it will be my last chance to make state...ever. But then again, I know that only one Eb clarinet from each area (at least mine..I'm not sure about others) makes it to state and if someone else from my region decides to tryout, then I run the risk of not even making region. Aggh, I dunno what to do about that, but I'll attempt to practice on the Eb this summer if I can manage to get one
Claritone
why not just try out on both Eb and Bb?
mnkyman
^not all regions allow multiple instruments - i know mine doesnt or id tryout on clarinet, eb, alto clar, contra-alto plus eb and Bb - meh kinda same instrument there but Ttrumpet - thats cool play alto sax and trumpet imma try to learn alto sax this summer
ClaireAnnette07
plus eb and Bb - meh kinda same instrument there Kind of, but Eb is in a different key (I know you're thinking "Duh") and it's harder to play since it's so small. And to the person who suggested I tryout on both, I don't think my region allows it. I believe the only time you can tryout on two instruments is on oboe/English Horn since some kid did it a couple of years ago from my school. Claritone
ah i see. my region allows people to try out on more than one instrument and then they can decide whichever one they want to play at region band, though im not sure if you can advance to area on multiple instruments
mnkyman
^no u can only advance on 1 (u would get to choose) as for playing eb and Bb... i play bass clar and played contra for region (different key - harder to play) but basically the same instrument
Claritone
yea thats what i figured, i just dont know anyone whos ever qualified on two instruments
ClaireAnnette07
No--the guy who auditioned on both oboe and english horn actually advanced from 4A Pre-Area on both and had to choose which one he wanted to go to area on,lol. I think he actually chose oboe, if anyone wanted to know
the_DRUM_MAJOR
yea i think youre only allowed to try out on one instrument in region 19 as for the oboe/Eng. I dunno..but it would be hard doing both bass and Bb..learning 6 pieces of music and getting it all perfect is too time consuming lol but anyway, I play bass clarinet for region/area and for concert ensembles, clarinet and bass for orchestra, and i play piccolo pretty well
mnkyman
lol piccolo thats random ..coming from a clarinet player
Skippy
I play french horn, and am also a 3-year all-stater on string bass. I've also played piano since I was 6.
