TRtrumpet Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Today I found out I may be moving to dallas next year and I want to go to a school with a good band and music program. Can anyone tell me the best ones? Thanks. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 If I were you, I would look for schools with good academics too. The bands that are "good" are not limited to the following: Duncanville LD Bell Haltom Richland Marcus Hebron Coppell Berkner The Colony Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 The current state champion, L.D. Bell is from the Dallas area. Duncanville is also close by and they were 3rd in 04 and 1st in 02. Duncanville also has a great concert program. Really all the bands above are great choices, i guess it all depends on what all you want in a band program i.e. marching, concert, jazz, etc. Quote

I've heard alot about all 9 of those bands from this website, but I've never actually heard any of them and had no idea where they were. Wow im exited now. I didnt know Dallas had so many good bands. I'd probably want one with good marching band program, but hey any of those would be fine with me! lol. Getting to be in bands like those would be awesome... lol especially when your coming from a small 30 piece band like mine. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 the dallas area has tons of bands (marching and concert) that are excellent. if you want to look at just the lewisville district, you've got marcus, hebron, flower mound, the colony, and lewisville. all excellent schools with very good bands. in the neighboring district of carrollton, you've got schools like creekview and newman smith. this is just an example of one district in the dallas area. you can literally go to any district in dallas and pick out a some very solid bands. texas is just swarming with them. and hey, if you move up here you can check out the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra stuff. it has two full orchestras and a wind ensemble and entry is by audition. believe me, its some amazing stuff. the top orchestra group is touring china and japan next year i think. the wind ensemble this year flew up to atlanta to play with the atlanta youth wind symphony. and all the groups can just flat out play. take the first chairs from 30 dallas schools and pop them into one group and you've got a heck of an ensemble. QuadraticBeats Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Why are Dallas bands so... bloody... GOOD?! Oh, and if you don't mind "wanting to go puke in a corner" (if you're a percussionist), visit Marcus High School Drumline website and check out some of the videos. Some of my friends and I in the drumline found it funny that such a good line would look so skinny, and well, immature- alot of us in the battery are in pretty good or excellent physical condition, so I guess we thought they'd look more imposing. Either way... they outplayed us and alot of other people- but of course, we weren't competing against them- they are in a league of their own for the most part. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 marcus's drumline is sick. those kids can flat out play. i think last year they had two or three kids from their drumline on phantom regiment's line. Quote
