  1. 1) If a section leader calls a sectional, and the directors or any non-student people are at a sectional, does it count towards the eight hour rule? Like if I call a trumpet sectional, the only people there are me and the rest of my section, no adults or anything.

    also

    2) what's your take on push-ups during rehearsals? We don't have to do them, but I've heard rumors around the band that we may end up doing them next year if we don't act straight or something.

Thanks to those of you who reply =)

What is your band director like during rehearsal? Outside of rehearsal? B) Do you think they do a good job? Do they know what they are doing? <_< Who is your director????

Well lets see. First off, my director has been a middle school concert director for about 10 years, and since our old director has been moved, he is now head director at our high school. He does a terrible job, he is insane and just plain dumb. And put into perspective just how bad he is... last year, our top band played Russian Christmas Music, and it was fantastic. Now they're playing Joy to the World in quarter notes.

Our assistant director marched for Tar Heel *division 1 drum corps which has folded in the past*, he knows what he's doing, he's a really smart guy... but doesn't have much common sense.

    Our directors suck :)

  3. I'm glad that marching season's over... not because marching season's over, but because I don't have to wake up at 5:45 every morning to deal with my crappy directors for an hour before school. My band sucks... just when we were about to peak, our head director retired, and a noob came in and took his place. Now we (Clemens) are screwed for about 5 years, until our director gets some experience. When we perform our best show ever and get 46th out of 57... it's not the students that are at fault...

    basically, I'm glad marching season's over :-)

  4. I'm rather surprised nobody's said anything about the trumpets yet. If you're looking for versatility, look no further. It is arguably the best melodic instrument on the field, it can play counter-melodies... It can sound powerful, nasty, edgy... or it can sound soft, pretty, light... it can do pretty much anything.

I must say, after playing 'An American Elegy' last year in MIddle School Wind Ensemble, it still gets to me every time I hear it. 'October' is a brilliant piece, I'll admit, yet there's just something more to American Elegy.

omg, I just realized something about your name. That song was written for my old band director!!

... if anyone cared... I thought it was cool...

sry...I posted that at like 3 am after getting home from where else...San Antonio...sad thing is that he clinicians us sometimes and I totaly messed up his name! OOO boy..hehe

Sloan choreographs our shows too *I'm at clemens*

I personally don't like him, it really seems like he doesn't do much for us at all. He's always spending his time at Churchill or something ;)

I never said I wanted WW In DCI, but maybe someone could invent some new circut that allows ww's kus they add alot to the sound in my opinion. I think it would be great.

If you have never heard your woodwinds while your brass is playing during a performance or something, raise your right hand.

    *raises right hand*

If you have never heard your woodwinds when your brass isn't playing, raise your left hand.

    *raises left hand*

so yeah... woodwinds suck, brass own. There's no arguing it, at all. What can you do with a woodwind that you can't do with a brass instrument?
