  1. First off, thank you for reading my friggin' long post! And yeah, I realize how harsh my words were after re-reading it and I'm really glad you didn't take so much offense in it that you reposted screaming about something. That's a really cool thing to do and it represents your band very well. Also, I should have mentioned that the drill looked quite difficult, especially when you go to the corner of the field (I think that was you guys... I hope). It was pretty well executed for how difficult it seemed. Oh, and I'm sure everyone from Aledo and Sherman has gotten their ear full of apollogies for the whole warm-up mistake, but I'd like to repeat how sorry we were that all that happened and we hope it didn't ruin your show. Good luck at state!
  2. I don't want to rag on you guys, but yeah, I wasn't impressed with the prelims performance either. But I could definately tell the potential in how good the show could be. Too bad I didn't see the finals performance, but I bet it would have rocked way over Aledo at the very least (no offense to Aledo, but I made my post on that earlier).
  3. HAHAHA! That is the most horribly hilarious thing I've heard in a long time!
  4. oh god, I know. And worst of all, I think someone sprayed axe afterward... put all those together with axe and you've got a foul smelling asthma attack... not the best situation for some.
  5. I second that notion! Except I have competed up here, and I gotta say, it was pretty good last night. Thank you all you bands that came out to compete yesterday! It really helps support our band program and I hope you all enjoyed your time in lil' ol' Frisco. Comments, questions, concerns?
  6. As another person who has been around marching for 4 years and saw all the bands in prelims (also at Cetennial), i strongly agree with most of the judging decisions (And I was sitting next to wingz most of the time too). I thought Dripping Springs was off the hook, personally. They had an interesting central theme which gave them their GE points (especially when combined with the pretty well executed forms). I liked their sound, especially after hearing and watching Aledo (more on that in a second). I liked the depth of their sound too, because it wasn't overbearing and it wasn't weak- it was that nice HS Marching band balanced forte that I like, but that's just me and I get that my opinion, most of the time, is quite off. Apparently not with the judges though . I liked Sherman, but sadly, I agreed with the judges when compared to the other bands (except with Aledo). From what I read above, it wasn't their best, so I won't elaborate, but I bet it was better in finals, and I certainly think they will put the petal to the metal when Tuesday comes around. I didn't get to see the Planos, but obviously they went nuts as well. I wish I had so that I could make a more solid opinion on prelims, but hey, they're good enough without my opinions . The Colony I saw this past Friday at our football game, which was a heartwrencher by the way. The band did... decently that night, which I can TELL is not the calibur of performance they showed last night or else they wouldn't have place so high. Somehow, I'm not surprised that they got placed where they did, simply because I've seen their show before, and it's pretty clean, but not as interesting as I thought Dripping Springs was. What I am surprised about was that Allen went so far down in Finals and that TC overtook them. Granted, I didn't see the finals and their performances probably weren't the same as prelims, so I won't make the call that it was bad judging, but by prelims, it was about right. So about Allen, they really got me yesterday. Watching them get onto the field for about 2 minutes and then watching their director wear a giant yellow sombrero and have to stand at the top of the backfield risers to conduct was some good pre-show entertainment (but not as good as our exhibition). Their show, the part that mattered, was what really meant the most to me. They marched a pretty clean show, though based on lines and "paralellograms" (sp?) alot, their sets made with an impressive quality. The strings at the end were pretty entertaining too, even though I have somewhat of a problem with "non-marching band" instruments place in marching productions, but they weren't taking attention away from the show very much, so I didn't complain about it. And best of all, I got to hear the REAL DEAL sound of Allen. They can play pretty balanced and freaking loud (which you'd expect from 500 people) and those last few chords just take your breath away with their intensity and volume. As for the rest of the show's sound, I loved it just as much since it was not an overbearingly loud or out of balance sound and fit what you'd think a 500 marcher band would sound like. Overall, Allen was probably my favorite to watch, just because I don't get to see a band like Allen anytime and they're a pretty cool program, overall. And now that I got all the happy comments out, here come the sad ones... . I didn't get to see Timberview... AGAIN. But I heard they were alright, and I did get to see the straight jacket color gaurd they were talking about. But still... And onto my big problem with the night... Aledo. I thought their show was a little too unclean for my taste. At first, I thought I had never seen them before and after seing them enter with their planets in the back, I realized I had seen them, but disliked them and didn't remember the name... or I just got distracted . It seemed like they had alot of problems with straight lines throughout the show, and I was just about at the 50, high as the stands went. Their forms weren't placed completely where they seemed like they should have been, but it might have just been me. Then, they had a bass guitar playing with them, and my friend pointed out that it was adding alot of the bass sound to their low brass sound and gave it an almost unclean sound, just because it didn't sound like the real brass band that I'm used to. Their sound just displeased me on the whole. It's probably just a different quality of sound, but it's a quality that I disagree with. Lastly, it seemed like they didn't play a whole lot when they moved. All their "loud" notes were standing still or when they had smaller sets... and their show just bugged me. In my opinion, Sherman had em all the way. Finals might have been different, but I have no clue. That's all my opinions (in a FREAKING HUGE nutshell). EDIT: Alright, I didn't see the last 4 bands in prelims because I had to get dressed for rehearsal. That includes the Planos, The Colony, and (the) Timberview band. My mistake . And btw, does anyone know why they went last? What was the deal?
  7. Sorry for the double post, but I just want to point out that I'm not trying to pick a bone with anyone- I certainly don't want to make anyone think that. I'm just saying what I think in the most polite way I can think of. Cheers all around!
  8. Hey now, we all have opinions, no need to snip at others when it's just her predictions. Besides, it's not that far out to think that the previous 4A Grand Champions would make it to finals again, nor that the 3rd place at State and strong competition with Poteet would make it, or that another previous state finalist wouldn't live up to its name and take a finals spot again this year. That aside, they are all pretty good bands any way you slice it, and they do deserve props some way or another. I'll have to second (or third) gracelyd here on those. As far as Centennial goes, I think you're just being nice since there are so many of us on the forum but I can tell you like all of our shows and think we have a pretty good shot as well. Thanks for the boot of confidence! I think some of my State Finalists would have to be the Three stated above, Roma (I've only heard good about them), Dickinson (same), maybe Conally, The Colony is pretty solid (but I'll have a strong opinion on that once I see them this weekend at the Centennial Marching Festival) and the same goes for Dripping Springs. This is gonna be one tough year!
  9. Oh, and it was funny reading all those posts earlier tonight where throughout I was like "why are they so confused as to what school he goes to? It's in his signature..."
  10. Yes, I do mean the first shift. That way, no matter what I get, I can enjoy the later ones, as I'm sure you realized too. But if I get a good job that lets me see the shows during the day, I'll probably work longer if they want me to... or even don't mind.
  11. There are quite a few bands I want to see, and that's why I took the early shift! To list a few: Wakeland (I've seen their video from LE, and it seemed pretty good, but I probably won't see it... too early ) Frisco (I want to see it from above now, not just sidelines... not happening either) Sherman- I heard their ok... Dripping Springs Aledo Allen- I saw it freshman or sophmore year... But I don't remember much, just that it's cool Arlington Martin Timberview- I wanna see what beat us at LE! Bet it's pretty cool Plano Senior The Colony AND Plano East It's gonna be a GREAT day!
  12. That's right! The mexicans of Titan Band unite! It's gonna be awesome!
  13. I was about to respond to that saying that they changed up the judges, two of them switching between music and marching, but then I remembered that judge 1 stayed the same . I'm getting this info from the schedules they handed out yesterday at the competition. My mom got one and I read all the stuff on it for like 15 minutes out of giddiness. Grats everyone that made it!
  14. I concur with the wings here. It's very impolite to to go on like that, especially when a moderator just had to approach our behavior... It was about a different subject, but still, it does deal with etiquette. What really matters is that we made it, and we safely say we will be worn to the bone this week for marching rehearsal. Hands down death to all of us... and then we host the CMF happily and cheerily! and then to San Antonio!
