  1. Not my point at all. Sure they can judge based on how clean and effective they 'think' the music is, but can you really say, as a judge, "wow, that color guard choreography is very clean, but I'm going to give you a bad score because I don't like it." 'Opinion' as in personal preference.
  2. Still no score sheets I guess?
  3. Would like to share that the percussion judge said JET's perc writing "lacked nuance and uniqueness" and felt "blocky and unfitting." (placed JET 18th in perc) If you're gonna judge a contest, especially one like UIL, you can't be opinion based. It's not fair to the performers on the field who are making the best of what they're given (not saying I agree with his critiques). I don't see much evidence of a new judging system at all. Most things seemed to have remained the exact same as they have every other year and this contest is still equally as unpredictable.
  4. In prelims at Waco, JET tied with L.D. Bell and Westlake and scored over Bowie in visual performance. In finals at Waco, JET scored over Westlake and Westwood in music performance. A combination of these runs at a UIL performance could seriously turn some heads, especially one as unpredictable as Area I.

  6. I've heard rumors that Area Finals will take on a top half/bottom half performance schedule based on Prelims scoring. I can't seem to find any official information anywhere regarding this, so if anyone has something concrete that could either verify or debunk this rumor that would be awesome!
  7. 5th in prelims with an 86.325. JET seems to perform better in preliminaries so far, but we will see where they end up. Jordan over 7L and Cy-Fair seems a bit far fetched to me. We saw last year that KMF is in very few ways a good indicator of the late-season, and many many things can change between then and Area.
  8. JET 5th in prelims after 3 years of nothing burgers? Pretty crazy stuff.
  9. A very fascinating set of judges here. I'm interested to see their opinions on what each band has on the field. I think we could see a very similar set of ideas across the panel due to most of them having significant experience working with and participating in marching band and drum corps.
  10. I get the effect they are going for. They do a couple of bows in the form towards the dancers and soloists, but it just doesn't appeal to me. And yes, I agree. The scores won't reflect this. I also have a problem with many bands in this area's shows where they flutter to sets, play, and then flutter away to another set to play again. Maybe I'm just a purist, but I feel like the marching aspect of marching band isn't being recognized that much anymore.
  11. Probably should've phrased it more as a question-- thanks for debunking it as I believed it was a little wild. My point still stands about design though.
  12. Just to make it clear I'm not dissing their marchers, I know they all try very hard and I have some friends in almost every KatyISD program. However, I think that there are many schools in the area with very poor design and staffing. I've heard Jordan High School has no prescribed marching technique which seems like its setting them up for failure (although this could be just a rumor). In the context of Cinco, I think the 30 second hold in a kneel was a very poor design decision which seems like it may hurt them score wise. A lot of the comments and criticisms I have about these bands relate to design choices and problems that don't seem to be getting addressed.
  13. Cinco has a set where they kneel down for 25 seconds during a solo....
  14. I hear ya lol Halftime can be very hectic 😭
  15. I can agree they had a good season last year, I enjoyed the show at some parts. But a program like Cincos where half the band was under a different director for two years takes time to change and adapt to the new one which I just don't see happening within 2 years. I hope the best for them and all the other band fellas, but I think most of us can agree they're being VERY overhyped.
