  1. This year, an alto sax player did a sharp horns down and his neck went flying. That was at finals for TOC too. Also I've seen multiple times, bass clarinet bells actually falling off. Don't ask me how or why though.
  2. Thanks! You guys have improved quite a bit since last year. I thought you guys had a really cool show as well this year. But wow, do you guys look so much better! Our show will be a lot cleaner by Duncanville and UIL time. Idk... there's always next year ofr BOA I guess . Btw did anyone else have any weird Judge placings? One judge said he liked our show a lot, yet he put us as 19th! (Visual GE). Kind of odd for they type of show we have.
  3. Seeing as how we did overall, I'm not so sure of that (Mansfield). Our drill is very hard this year. Granted we had an earlier time spot which could have affected things. I thought our performance was pretty solid for where we're at and was disappointed to hear the results .
  4. Sorry to hear that. =( At least you get to have a clinician with your drill writer, that'll make you have a better understanding for the show/drill and it should be interesting .
  5. Yeah that's the way I feel about it too. They sounded great, it's just I didn't understand a single concept of that show, and was a little dissapointed that some sets such as some simple forms as lines didn't quite lock in. The show in general just seemed a bit random and ill-placed. But once again grats to them. Here's an interesting tidbit. Our marching director also wrote the drill for Aledo =0.
  6. Yeah, we don't have hardly any visuals added in yet. All we have are visuals in two places, with one of them being the woodwinds taking off their hats and moving them around in various patterns.
  7. Grats to Wylie for winning it. I didn't see it coming. I thought they sounded good, and overall marched their drill cleanly. With that being said, if you were there, their drill was simple overall. I guess that's a positive about performing that kind of show early on. Anyways, congrats to them, this contest had a lot of suprises that I wouldn't have expected. I love the idea of Creekview show, however, I think that more puppet visuals should be added throughout the show and balanced a bit more. I felt that the beginning had tons of actions, but the towards the end, they weren't really present. Creekview also sounded really good too. I really liked their show in general. The drum majors acting into the visuals even made it cooler. They've improved quite a bit since last year. Creekview, good job! I think that Mansfield has a lot on the platter to clean up. We came in there and did the best we could do to perform that day. However, much of the show still needs a lot of work. Music is one thing I wish we did better that night. From on the field I heard quite a few people sticking out in the overall balance. If we fix some issues and just go mad at cleaning, it'll be miles better. Btw can anyone tell me how the balance/sound of the sax soli went, criticisms please! It was a fun contest. I enjoyed it more this year than last year even. I didn't get to see Aledo or Centennial perfrom though =/.
  8. Come to think of it... It has never rained at a game, show, or contest that I've went to while I've been in highschool band. It's only rained at practices for me...
  9. One thing is for sure, it'll be fun to see what happens .
  10. What do you mean it's nothing like Reagan o.o... ? (JW) The ending is incredibably similar with the band exiting the field with a lone soloist standing. (It's freakin sweet!) Plus with all the crazy drill such as a density study like stuff. Both use unique drill that is a bit outside the box. Even the type of music styles are very similar. Re-watch 05' Reagan and our show this year and tell me they're not at all similar, heh. (Which is my favorite show). Although our show this year has totally different ideas and music behind it, it's still in alotta ways very similar
  11. All I can say is that I can't wait for TOC. I think a lot of people will be suprised when they see us. This is one of the coolest shows I've seen. Kinda reminds of a Reagan type show. It'll be fun to see.
  12. Well, I don't want to give away too much of our cool sets, but just think lots of arrows. You'll just have to come see it! There should be quite a bit of cool visuals too by TOC. (Hide and Seek has quite a few)
  13. Lol! That's quite a random clip... There's not a video of our show at our home game against Keller Central?
  14. You can order the CDs of the state music at Texas Tech's site, Texas Tech State Band CD Recordings, There's a paragraph/link on the right side which opens up a pdf file. The CDs are like $11-12 each, unless you buy a case of 13, lol. Each CD comes with a recording for each etude at practice speed and performance speed. It also says that it comes with a masterclass covering preperation and performance tips and such.
  15. Well I personally want us to do better than just make finals (Such as ranking up higher in finals). That's not good enough for me. I just wish more people in our band actually cared more and put forth more effort and discipline. My personal goal is All-State as well, heh.
  16. Also, Mansfield's third movement is Hide an Seek by Imogen Heap as well. It's still a lot different than The Woodlands show last year. It's hard to describe heh. You'll just have to hear it. The beginning of the movement starts off with a six person sax ensemble at the front of the field that will really sound cool (I may be a bit biased, heh) and ends with a flute solo. The last movement is an arrangement of Imogen Heap music. Just wait and see it.
  17. Yeah, our guard jumped from like 18... to like 40 O_o.... but then again, now we have about 19 clarinets and like 12-13 flutes >_<... Saxes jumped from 5 altos to 12... heh.... 2 Tenor saxes to 4 , and a pretty massive drumline.
  18. Mansfield HS's new director still isn't announced yet... I hope it will be... Good news is that our marching is relatively uneffected, as we have our main marching director guy still here. He does soooo much though around this time of year. He's writing the drill for 9 shows for highschools including ours.
  19. Speaking of which, the new Legacy High School will be playing music from Final Fantasy and Halo. I go to Mansfield, but they told everyone here basically. I thought it fit into the topic, heh.
  20. To pick up on what marcomac said, Mansfield is playing Lux Aurumque by Eric Whitacre, Let Go/Jump In by Frou Frou, and some other Imogen Heap stuff. It should be really cool! Look forward to it , we're getting much much better. First post ever on this site btw, I hope to post some more...
