  1. Katy plays Seven Lakes this Friday. I'm excited for a few more folks to see the show and excited to see parts 1-3 performed for the first time together (closer will soon be in the works). Then a 5am call for Alvin ISD. Bandtober starting early, hah. I've retired early from the prediction game as 1) I've been bad at it and 2) this Area is too good to separate usually past the Top 2 all the way to 12-13 or so...at least for me anyway. I think we'll have a show that is competitive and hopefully folks will like it.
  2. Region 23 Draw Order
  3. I don't know if it will translate to higher finishes since there are so many great bands in our area all seemingly on the rise, but Katy has made some significant changes that will hopefully keep us in the mix. @Sideswiperr I think you're pretty much right as far as where we are as a program. We've broken new ground (for us) by making Finals 4 times in a row, so we definitely hope to keep that going while having State as a stretch goal.
  4. It's an absolutely awesome show. Seeing it live at Area I was a real treat, and getting to see my 12 year old trumpeters reaction to it was priceless! We were blown away. Would love to see them make finals.
  5. UIL SMBC rules say that if there are 20-29 bands at Area then 10 qualify for finals, so we'll still have 10 finalists, at least.
  6. I think we'll get 25 or 26 bands to Area, with 10 or 11 coming from 23 and 15 from 27.
  7. Hard to argue with your Top 6/7. I do think Katy is being overlooked a little considering that they were less than a point behind JET at Berry and finished well ahead of LC and Ranch, with no ordinals below 4th. This Katy show is improving drastically week to week and still on an upward trajectory. It's all good though, we're splitting hairs and all of these bands are great. It's gonna come down to who executes in crunch time.
  8. Katy's show still has a good bit of room to improve from last week. Finals run wasn't our best but it was just the second time they've run the whole show. All of the other bands will improve too of course so it will be interesting to see where everyone is after another week of work.
  9. I know Katy got third. I believe behind Clear Falls and New Caney. Edit: Should have specified that those were obviously omitting North Shore, who doesn't place at their event.
  10. That's a whole other level, but it would be fun to go in that general direction, hah! When they played their halftime show in Katy in '21 they got a standing ovation from our crowd.
  11. As always, this competition is going to be really tough, with so many great bands and especially with such a strong Top 3-4. It seems to me that 4/5 through 9/10 could go in just about any order because they're all so close. It's a shame they're all fighting for 1 spot, maybe 2, depending on who you consider locks. It's nice to see Katy in the conversation in that second group. Numbers are way up in the program, even from last year, and they've been on a good run of making the finals. We'll see how it comes together this year, but I think we'll be pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing the great shows!
  12. Congrats to the great bands that made State! I'm so proud of our Katy band for continuing to reach new heights as a program. They've made three straight Area finals which has never been done before at Katy. We've gotten better each year, but the bar keeps getting raised by the phenomenal programs in our Area. We're definitely underdogs in this realm, but our kids embrace it and keep pushing forward. Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, Cy Woods, Tompkins, and Seven Lakes...we wish y'all the best!
  13. I can say that Katy had their best run of the season, and I've seen all of them.
