  1. Mellophone has the same partials and fingerings as a trumpet. French horn partials are MUCH closer. Starting on a C below the staff, the open partials are: C, E, G, really Sharp A or Flat Bb, C, D, E, F#, G, and then it goes nuts and its like all half steps. Also, most people play double horns, which have the normal horn in F, and then a trigger which switches to the Bb side of the horn. This changes the sound slightly and the partials are more like a trumpets. Then there's the whole right hand thing with stopping (which I suck at), tuning, and changing your sound with your right hand. Also, most people use a trumpet-like mouthpiece on mellophones, which are cup-shaped, while french horn mouthpieces are conical.
  2. Haha not with notepad. I know its possible, but it costs some moneys. Looks like you're stuck entering it by hand.
  3. Sorry, nothing of mine is horribly fast or loud, and thus wouldn't be of much interest to you. Just because you're the only person who posts in this forums a lot that composes doesn't mean you're "king composer", so to speak. Settle down sparky.
  4. Sheesh. Having good playback sounds is an excuse for not having good things to be played back. You shouldn't need it anyways.
  5. If its not 2005, you bet(s)! I, myself, prefer music from men such as Frank Ticheli,
  6. Sounds pretty cool, but more like a drum corps show as opposed to marching band. That whole beginning would be hard to pull off for most highschools, just because of how sustained it is. Also, what's with the techno beats across the whole thing? Felt a bit out of place to me.
  7. Depends. I tend to use percussion more as effects kind of stuff, I.E. impacts, flourishes, whatnot. One guy who uses percussion really well is Daniel Montoya Jr. http://www.danielmontoyajr.com check it out. Danse Moods is amazing.
  8. Rule 1- EVERYTHING goes in composition Rule 2- There are no rules Rule 3- Write what you feel It'll take some (a lot) time until you write things that you can look back on and enjoy and that are really well done. However, don't let this discourage you, the journey is the most important part. I've been writing for about 2 and a half years, and I still think my stuff is just *meh*. So have fun. If you ever want me to look at something or if you have any questions, talk to me on AIM.
  9. I'm for micing the pit so they can use good technique and not have to bang away to be heard. Micing woodwind soloists too. Otherwise, yeah, kill it.
