  1. -Copying my post from the HornRank forum

Just saw a Facebook post from the Whitesboro band. In case you don't know/remember, they are the ones who went to BOA Grand Nationals in 2016 as a Class A band and are a consistent UIL 3A finalist, finishing 2nd in 2019.

    Facebook post:

"March 6th at 7pm! We are taking the Pride of Whitesboro to the big stage...

  2. I wish people would actually understand that this rule is not being proposed for large sections of woodwinds. As you lay out, that is not possible. They are treating this the same way as vocal parts, guitars, violins, trombones, French horns, etc. People on social are just so against this and they don’t even understand it.

  3. predictions:

    1. Ronald Reagan - What a beast of a show

    2. Flower Mound - Slightly ahead of 3rd

    3. Vandegrift - How can you not like this show!?

    4. CTJ - THE LION KING!

    5. Hebron- musicianship carries them

    6. Leander- one of my favorite shows of the year-much like BAC this past summer. Very fun show just nothing to impress the judges too much

    7. Vista Ridge - DRUMLINE! One of the best in TX

    8. TWHS- Seem to have cleaned ALOT between Houston and now

    9. Marcus - Haven’t seen em but heard good things

    10. L.D. Bell - 3rd at St. Louis in a very competitive lineup

    11. Bowie - won Waco

    12. Westwood - came close to TW at Houston, and I know shows develop at different rates, but this is another one of my favorites! I love this show this year!!!!!!

    13. Keller - show concept isn’t hard to get, but it’s one of those abstract ones

    14. Cedar Park - Come on, somebody’s got to make finals doing it “the UIL way”

  4. PENALTIES IN MARCHING BAND ARE THE STUPIDEST THING EVER!!!!!

Other than if a student does something, or the band affects the schedule of the contest, it is not fair to the kids. All of them pour blood, sweat, and tears into perfecting their programs and for something as small as 30 seconds over on a performance take that away is just NOT RIGHT.

Basically kids are wasting their times perfecting programs that don’t even get to see the light of day because of A DIRECTOR’S MISTAKE! Or maybe not even. Incredibly unfortunate.

(And please don’t take this as though the Roma kids “wasted their time”. They didn’t. They still probably all learned to be better musicians and people. Just trying to make my point.

  5. Well, just like DCI, the Music and Visual Individual judges on the field do not venture more than five yards from the sideline. I first noticed this two years ago at Grand Nats. And yes, it’s very difficult to acquire an adequate sample this way, IMO.

I'm pretty sure BOA judges can still go wherever they so please.   Judges are always all over the field.
