  1. I've never seen an entire show based around blue man group before, that'd be pretty sweet...opening with "above" and then whatever else you like of them
  2. wanna see a tight trumpet piece? watch the cadets 2000 show Millennium Celebration and wait for the brass feature, we are playing it and it's amazing! and yes, in reference to a earlier mention, "postcard" was an awesome piece to play
  3. question...I saw bell live the last couple of years and one thing I remember is the HUGE amount of dynamic contrast in their music live (which really isn't caught on any of the online vids)...sadly, this year I can't make it back for any of the contests so I was wondering just how this years show compares musically to the last few shows? way more contrast? about the same?
  4. man I wish I could be there, but we are playing Ole Miss and can't skip our own performance... saw Bell's show online.......wow......enough said Go McKinney Boyd!!! woo your charter grads root you on, haha
  5. what's the rehearsal schedule down there at UNT like, up here we do 3:30 to 5:20 monday, tuesday, thursday, and friday, plaus gameday mornings (I love not having the 7am rehearsals like we did at in mckinney, haha
  6. yea we march over 10 piccs at Arkansas, no flutes (as for how they sound remotely good, that's a great question. Being a trumpet player I wish I had a definite answer, making 64 trumpets sound good is hard enough)... sorry I don't know exactly who arranged it, but i'll look into it and let you know come visit us up here! I had siblings go to Tech, A&M, and UT and I can say I like it here the best (sorry that's my little bit of propaganda for the day, haha)
  7. haha I just had to add this after we performed it and got a standing ovation from the student section (big achievement in college band)...sorry about the quality, it's just about the dance. now we are working on the cadets 2000 show Millenium celebration, GO HOGS!!! haha
  8. well even if this isn't in texas i'm from mckinney and can say that i'm having a blast in the arkansas razorback marching band, also mostly non music majors...if you want intensity in football games with 76,000 people, come to the SEC...music is awesome also (doing a Journey show, thriller, guitar hero, and millenium celebration)
  9. mckinney boyd is moving up to 5A area B next year, little FYI
  10. another thing for everyone, go get a bag of balloons, take one per day, put it in between your teeth and lips and blow it up with an open throat, this really works the corners and air support. Do this like five or ten times in one session, then do it again blowing through a straw. my private lesson teacher taught me this and it really works.
  11. try long tones too, those will get your endurance up more so it's not as painful to play high trumpetman1288 is right, without good low notes, you really can't get good high notes I understand that braces suck, I got mine off freshmen year and it took me FOREVER to get used to it. be patient and don't do anything to ruin your chops and you should be good, most of all, be patient.
  12. my favorite was definitly bell's 100%, when you see it live the dynamics added such an effect, simply awesome...
  13. aloha everyone! Trumpet: Bach Stradivarius Model 43 (love the tone compared to 37) Mouthpiece: 3C Range: pedal whatever to super G Chair: Section leader (no chairs yet) yeah don't just start singing high notes without a warm up, I learned the hard way and it took me a few days to re-open my sound completely, that doesn't mean it wasn't fun though, lol question, my directors are ticked at me because it's my senior year and instead of working on all-state stuff all the time, I work on college auditions mainly. any opinions?
  14. just got back from bell's community send off performance and I must say bravo to them this year, you really do need to see it live to feel the emotion they put into it, it's awesome...and the new ending for GN finals is going to be quite the treat, just wait, you'll see... anyways good luck to all the bands going, represent!
  15. once again back to the excessive celebration, I remember my sophomore year (two years ago, 05) at the Area C contest when they announced Wylie was going on, the band rushed the field like at a big college football upset, maybe it hacked me off because I was bitter for not moving on, maybe it was over the top. Opinions?
  16. i like broken arrow's just because it adds a huge effect to their marching, like last years GN finals, half the visuals were them turning to show the white side of the pants, and it worked...
  17. I would've said Boyd was gonna be up there in the next few years in area B but next year is 5A and well....I don't think I need to explain
  18. about the mashing songs, I think it has a great effect as long as you execute it, we (boyd) did it in our closer and consequently, with something like 45% freshmen, it tore somewhat in the area finals, which is what probably kept us out of state or even alternate
  19. we were preparing just in case if we had the first finals performance time, kinda paranoid about being late
  20. even though boyd didn't make it in area B i'm so proud for getting that far considering the number of freshmen we had and the tough area. good luck to all that made it!
  21. obviously with football games tomorrow posting will be tough so good luck to everyone at area B and everywhere else...
