  1. Keller, Coppell, LD Bell and Duncanville were the ones most likely to make it- the 5th spot was up for grabs and could have been any one of Haltom, Keller Central, Martin, Timber Creek or PESH. It was such an exciting evening. Bell and Coppell tied for 2nd in prelims, Duncanville was 1st in prelims and they all beat Keller who was 4th in prelims, but then Keller swooped in during finals and came 1st. Outstanding job by all bands.
  2. I forgot about Leander and Vista. So many great bands, it is hard to keep up
  3. About 2.5 weeks away. Not too early now. Let's have those predictions. Here are mine. Is it top 12 or top 10 that make finals? I forget. In any case, here are my top 12 1-3 Flower Mound/Marcus/Hebron 4-6 Vandergrift//Bell/Reagan 7-9 Bowie/Woodlands//Keller 10-12 Coppell/Duncanville/Haltom
  4. So, I would love to have your thoughts on the finalists. Based on what you saw yesterday, do you have any predictions for the top 5 (whew!!) at Area B?
  5. Anyone going to this? Please let us have your thoughts on Keller, Keller Central, Berkner and Coppell. Interested to see how they stack up since they are all "middle to bubble" finalist bands for State.
  6. It seems that Coppell a powerhouse when it comes to All Staters. They have consistently had the most in the State, the past few years at least. In 2015, they had 19! And that was not a fluke either- the year before they had 17. No wonder they sound so great in competition. Great music ability from that group of kids.
  7. I think their show is a wonderful extravaganza and a celebration of hard work and artistry. I also think there are other shows (maybe not as "showy" but still outstanding music and clean marching) that will do very well at UIL. Flo Mo's show is made for BOA (my opinion, and I could be totally wrong). Not to say that their music and marching is also not right up there with the best, but the GE factor, that clearly is a big part of their show, will not be a factor in the UIL competition. Very exciting year, in any case. Lot of great shows to watch.
  8. It is very sad indeed. They have a great show and they should be applauded for all their hard work getting to this level.
  9. Aren't some of the other areas equally tough? Area B does stand out as one of the hardest areas to get out of now. All eyes on the Duncanville Invitational this weekend. We will see some of the Area B bands there competing against each other, in a more UIL-based (vs BOA-based) scoring system.
  10. My friend who saw all the finalists thought Wakeland should have been in the 4-7 range.
  11. Got the prelim results for 6A from a friend who's kid was participating- Best Percussion- Martin Best Winds- Coppell and Marcus Best Drum major- Marcus Best Marching- Marcus Best Guard- Coppell
  12. I think it will be LD Bell, Duncanville, Coppell, Keller. My reasoning- LD Bell is back and will have a point to prove after being left out of State in 2014. Duncanville is always a great competitor and will be again. Coppell has always done better at UIL than at BOA and they tied Marcus for best winds during prelims at plano last week, so potentially they can score high for music. Keller- No reason other than I think one of the Keller bands will make it and it will be Keller over Keller Central.
  13. PESHmom do you have detailed results for prelim and finals. I heard Coppell tied Marcus for Best Winds in prelims? and Martin got Best Percussion. What about the other captions?
  14. Area B taking just 4 means some great bands are going to be left out of State. Can you imagine a State marching contest without Duncanville or LD Bell or Coppell? (I guess LD Bell knows what that feels like , didn't they get left out in 2014?)
  15. A little bit of sleuthing on the region websites and here's what I found. Area B- http://www.uilmusic31.org/uploads/7/4/1/7/74170681/6a_area_draw_order_2016.pdf Area C http://www.uilregion3music.net/2016%20Area%20Performance%20Order.pdf Area E- http://www.texasmusicforms.com/regions/13/AREA%20MARCHING/AREA%20MARCHING%20INFORMATION.htm (scroll and click on performance draw order Area F- http://www.texasmusicforms.com/regions/19/AreaMarching/2016-2017/2016%20Area%20F%206A%20Draw%20Order.xls I'll update more if I find them. Ran out of time
  16. Isn't it 1 band advances for every 5 bands that make Area? So if Area B has currently 31 schools, and hopefully 25 of those make it past Region to Area, then we should have 5 advancing. Is my thinking correct?
  17. Here's the link which has the list of all the bands that could potentially be at the Area B contest on Oct 29. This is a pretty stacked contest with Duncanville, Coppell, LD Bell, Keller, Haltom and Keller Central. Martin and Timber creek potentially could make it as well, especially after their BOA Plano performances (yes I know judging is different for BOA and UIL but they clearly will be in the running). Could we potentially have a contest where one of the regulars does not advance? http://www.uilmusic31.org/uploads/7/4/1/7/74170681/6a_area_draw_order_2016.pdf
  18. Thank you. Is anyone watching the prelims? Thoughts? I thought in the first block, Bowie, Bell and Coppell were all fantastic. Anything can happen, really
  19. Who are the 4 UIL State Champions? Anyone know?
  20. So did you go see the Marcus Hebron game? Thoughts on their shows?
  21. I keep hearing Coppell is different or someone said "new kind of show". Does anyone know why people are saying that?
  22. We're getting closer (not that early any more for predictions), anyone want to venture a guess at 6A top 12?
  23. What are the results for this?
  24. Will Vandy be the one to finally dethrone Marcus? Their BOA Austin win shows a seamless transition into 6A. Has anyone actually seen Marcus or Hebron this year?
