  1. Rumor is we have been asked to play at this thing either before the contest or during an intermission or something. It would be cool if we could perform our show from this past summer even though finals for us was Labor Day weekend but we have too many members that cant make it that day oddly enough because they are band directors around the area and have football games to attend with their schools.

We will probably end up doing the National Anthem and maybe a couple of tunes to warm the crowd up. If you are there and get a chance come by and check out our recruiting booth as I am sure we will have that set up as well.

Oh....and by "we" I mean the one and only Gulf Coast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps from Houston, TX. :D

Check the website for all of the details. This is going to be a great show. Not only will GCS and Frontier be going head to head in DCA competition but we also have 2 junior corps involved. Teal Sound and Revolution will both be competing that night as well.

Add in the exhibition performances by Austin Stars and Masquerade from Louisiana and you have the biggest bang for your buck drum corps competition in the state. You get all of this for only $5 in advance or $7 at the door. You can also purchase online for $5 plus a $1 processing fee.

If you live in the Houston area and are interested in purchasing advance tickets, contact me via PM.

  3. The NBA Finals games are Tues, Thurs and Sunday. Games 3, 4 and 5 are all in Cleveland. Tonight is game 3, Thurs is game 4 and Sunday is game 5. Unless Revo is travelling to Cleveland I dont understand how they are playing at a Spurs game. They dont come back to San Antonio until next Tuesday if the Cavaliers happen to win a couple which just isnt going to happen. Just saying.

    I will be there =)

So will I. Although I will have my euph in my hands playing for the rest of you and not just watching.

By the way...its not too late to jump on board with Gulf Coast Sound for the '07 season. We have a rockin' show that is a heck of a lot of fun to play. Along with a re-vamped guard we are set to make some waves in DCA Class A this year. We still have open spots in the hornline, drumline, and guard for those who might be interested. Check out the website for details. We have a 2 day camp this weekend which is a perfect opportunity for you late comers to join in and catch up.

For I though I would try out for the new senior corps in Austin, but then I found out they won't be active until 2007-08. <_< I'd like to see if I could try out for Revolution, but the only way I could do that is if I found someone up at UT who's auditioning and willing to drive me to San Antonio (I won't have a car on campus). Of course, I could always try out for a Houston-area DCA corps and "visit" home a lot for their spring camps. All in all, it will require much thought.

Not true....actually the Austin Stars are planning on doing Mini-Corps this upcoming season ('07) and a field corps in '08. Of course we would love to have you with us here in Houston at Gulf Coast Sound. This year is looking to be the best ever.

I'm joining the TX bandwagon and hoping to make Crossmen. I'll take the three hour drive from H-Town to Dirty SA over the flight to the East or Midwest any day!

If the Crossmen dont work out for you dont forget about Gulf Coast Sound. Open House is November 4th. Check the website for details.

  7. Yeah...that has been our problem the last couple of years....finding enough percussionists to get more help in the pit. We actually will have that lady's husband with us the rest of the year. He just couldnt make it to Austin due to other commitments and we had one other young lady who joined us at our last practice that should be with us the rest of the year and we also have a guard member who just found out that she is pregnant who will be shifting into the front ensemble for at least 3/4 of the show. She is still planning on performing during Unchained Medley. Her husband is the baritone player who starts the trio for the ballad. :)

I am glad you liked our show. If you have a chance to get to Houston the weekend of the 29th of July, we are hosting a small show with us, Frontier, Trinity and the TX Shriners Corps performing our field shows. We were supposed to have Heat Wave (a DCA corps from FL) coming in for our show also but they have gone inactive due to some internal issues and arent going to make it after all. We will also be at Frontiers home show at the end of August if you can make it up there to check us all out.

I got to hear Revolution last weekend at the Texas Drum Corps Preview at the capitol and was very pleasantly surprised. I'll admit that beforehand I thought "Oh it's just a Division III corps" but afterwords I was very impressed. I was also standing 10 feet from their hornline, so I got blasted at as well, lol. What great music too. I was by their pit as well and they were playing Division I sounding (and looking) stuff...very impressive to me.

What did you think of Gulf Coast Sound?

I was the euph player in the trio during Unchained Medley.

  9. Sweeet....I wish I would have had the opportunity to march junior corps when I was a young pup. Say "hi" to Megan from Dallas. She played baritone last year with Frontier in Dallas and is marching Capital Regiment this year.

yeah i have the same problem as him i kind of know how to play brass but definitely not good enough to play in a corps or i would jump at the chance

Like I said to the last guy.....come on out. If you have the desire and drive to do it, you can do it. Look at me.....I was a trombone player in high school. I graduated in 1991 and hadnt even picked up an instrument in 14 years until I joined Gulf Coast Sound last year and started playing baritone.

lol i would totally join (i live right in houston) but i dont have the musical background on a brass or percussion instrument to do it :/

Come on out and join us for rehearsal on Saturday June 17th. Rittenhouse Baptist Church.....I45 and Rittenhouse road. Directions and maps can be found on our website.

Our major need right now is in the front ensemble but if thats not your deal then come and see where you might fit in. Like you said, it might be a little late this year to learn a brass instrument but if you work hard and have good marching skills, its possible that you could jump in and pick it up. And you would be that much better for next year. We only have a few rehearsals left before our first field performance.....the show is done. So you would have to be able to jump in and learn the show quickly. We just have to clean and polish it now but there is nothing that says we cant do that with a few new bodies. :)

There are always excuses for not doing something. Just do it!!

Here at Bush High, we have two of our top trumpets marching Revolution. I've been to some of the camps, but parents said no no due to the money thing and time.

Oh well. But make sure to check them out if you're in the Houston area in The exSIGHTment of SOUND on July 20.

If you really want to get some corps exposure and not spend big bucks marching with a junior corps you should come check out Gulf Coast Sound. We actually need another soprano/trumpet player and a few more percussionists for our front ensemble for this year but would love to have you onboard next year. Its a great, inexpensive way to get involved in drum corps on a local level. And who knows....after a year or two of experience on the DCA level you could make that jump to DCI before you hit your age-out year and be that much more experienced.

I am an old trombone guy from high school myself. Never touched a baritone until last March when I joined Gulf Coast. And that was after about 14 years of not even playing an instrument since I graduated in 1991.

Check out our website for details. Also, dont forget our DCA show this summer. Eight days after ExSightment of Sound at St. Pius X High School, Gulf Coast Drum Corps Associates are proud to bring you "Brass on the Bayou." Featuring DCA corps from Houston and Dallas, TX and Orlando, FL as well as exhibition performances from Trinity and the local Shriners. You can buy tickets online at www.brassonthebayou.org or visit www.gulfcoastsound.org for complete details.

  13. Come on out to the Drum Corps Tigers BBQ fundraiser next Saturday. They do a good job putting this thing together. They have some cool raffle stuff and good BBQ. And you get to see Gulf Coast Sound perform our 2006 show music. By the way...we are still seeking a few trumpet/soprano players as well as a couple of folks for our front ensemble.

Just a little reminder that Michael Bui (Show of The Month Writer) and I (Host of The Danpodcast) will be at the Houston Marq*E theater in Houston, Texas. We'll be wearing our Txbands.com Badges before the show so keep an eye out for two handsome men outside the theater with lanyards around their necks!

If you meet up with us, I'll be sure to give you a little gift card as a little thanks for supporting Txbands.com!

Hope you see you folks there!!!!!! Enjoy the Classic Countdown and yes......You are allowed to lose your **** during the show ^_^

We had a few folks outside the theater before hand passing out flyers for Gulf Coast Sound and I didnt see you guys. Where were you at? On the parking garage side or the side closest to I-10?
