  1. Let me start by saying I was not able to attend finals but saw all bands in prelims. I really feel they got the top six bands correct and any of the six could of easily went to state with a few diffenrt scores. I do think 7 lakes  was judged pretty hard and thought they should of been placed higher but thats just my opinion . Being a brass player ,  I like a  " Power" show more  than a concert band on the field show . They were one of three bands that actually pushed me back and say WOW !

Judgeing is very subjective and I dont know how they do it , After about six bands my brain is mush. Looking at the sheets consistency is what you look for and it appears J2 scored every band in the finals  100 points higher than prelims. Where  all bands that much better in finals ?

I would sugest a diffent judge panel for finals so they can judge with  fresh thoughts and no prelim bias.

Also the regions really needs to advance some more bands to area  so we can qualify 5 or even 6 bands to state.Looks like we are the only area/region that gave out 3's in the whole state and also a bunch of 2's. Watch videos of the other area qualifiers and you will see our disquallified bands are better or as good as any of the lesser bands in other areas.

Congrats to all the bands for a very enjoyable year and good luck to all at BOA and State

  2. Does anyone actually truly believe that Cy-Creek had more challenging music and played it at a higher level than Cy-Falls, Cy-Fair, Seven Lakes, and Morton Ranch at finals? Does anyone truly believe that Seven Lakes deserved 18th in prelims? Or LAST in finals... Very disappointed in this judgeing panel this year.

The judge probably played based clarinet and was hypnoticed by the 10 cycreek players !

  3. Most marching band seems to grow on you the more you here it. Anyone who grew up in the sixties has heard Judy Collin's SEND IN THE CLOWNS hundreds of times. Langham does an excellent job with it. Personally I like pop songs with marching band competion. I am still waiting for that David Bowie themed show.

I was thinking more like the stan kenton orchestra or maynard ferguson ...NOTJUDY COLLINS...This is a greaat moment in the langham creek show but they need more sound and power to get the full effect.

  4. My Finals Predictions, (I'll be marching at area, as unbiassed as possible but hey, I still have my opinions :D )

    1. Seven Lakes: They have won every contest this year or at least beat out every Area E band that was there. Including Katy marching festival (they had the highest score but all KatyISD schools are scored separately). Very powerful brass, hits are loud but not "annoying". P.S. Love the Roman Pillars!

    2. Cy-Fair: Their show is amazing this year! Especially the musical aspect. Woodwinds are superb!! Drill is much harder than Seven Lakes; however, Seven Lakes preforms a much cleaner show. (But hey, a lot of cleaning can happen in a week!)

    3. Cy-Falls: I dont understand the contorversy in this forum about this band is... Their not nearly as bad as some of the haters say they are, but their not nearly as good as their followers (I'm assuming they're the Cy-Falls students on this forum) praise them to be. They're a superior band who's has obviously worked hard to make it this year. With that said, their show has major clean moments then, bam! all of the sudden it gets really dirty just to clean itself up again... However, that was just a video from a few weeks ago, and Cy-Falls is know for really focusing in and getting a lot better the last few weeks before Area.

    4. Morton Ranch: This school has come a long way since it was founded in 2004 (Maybe not as well as Seven Lakes, but then again, who placed higher at BOA last year..) I really hope this band goes on to state this year. Their marching is far better than years past an their musical moments are very nice. Last time I herd them play their was some major turning issues but with that aside I know they can really shake things up in this area this year.

    5. Clements: This is where my personal preference most likely comes in. I do not like Clements show this year. The singer is amazing and I don't mean this in anyway to bash her performance, but I don't like singing in marching shows, and I find their music very repetitive. Another thing, why the doors? Anyway, I don't understand why people have placed 1st when their are far superior bands in this Area.  I don't think making state in the past should be a reason to why you place bands in your state predictions (remember Cy-Falls in 2012). And to be fair, they blearily made state in 2012!!! Making 5th in prelims and barely squeezing by Cy-Falls and beating them by one point in finals for the state spot.... ( http://www.uilforms......lims 2012.pdf  http://www.uilforms......nals 2012.pdf ) Clements is an amazing band, I just don't see them making it this year.

    6. Langham: I personally have not seen them preform yet but I can't wait until I do!! I know their band is not as good as they were two years ago (or in the early 2000's and late 1990's) This ranking is pretty much just based off of what I have heard. (Which could be completely wrong!) P.S. clowns freak me out!

    7. SFA: Pretty much the same with Langham, I haven't seen them so I can't really judge them fairly. This is just on what I have heard.

    8. James E. Taylor High School: Im so disappointed this year in Taylor's progress this year! Verrrrrry messy show! I understand they got a new band director so their is a bit of a transition, but this is usually a solid group of players and performers,. They didn't even make BOA conroe finals this year! (after placing very high at BOA San Antonio last year!) Again, I'll give them a break this year because of the director dilemma, and I hope they dominate BOA next year.

    9. Cy-Ranch: Not much to say they deserve to make finals. Pretty nice show overall, preformed very well.

    10. Katy: I don't know why but I love this show so much. The toy theme just gets me everytime! Show preformed very well! I will be majorly disappointed if they don't make finals this year. They haven't made it in a while and I think this year is more than deserving!

**Why Jersey Village isn't in my finals list: This band is way over hyped in my opinion. The fact that they're on peoples finals list really confuses me. Just because you have a great concert band doesn't mean their marching program is great. One of the judges game them at two at Region for goodness sake. ( http://www.uilforms.com/marchrptuilpublic.asp ) I don't think out of all the bands listed they deserve to make finals.**

In the end this is all just based on a few numbers and my own personal opinion. I can't wait until Saturday!!! :D  :P  B)

Very nice review, and agree with most,

I have seen taylor, SFa , and morton ranch early season and really liked taylors show over morton ranch.. on that day.

I also do not like vocals in a marching band show, do you judge it like an instrument ?

I do not get the hype on lanham creek either, They have not beaten anyone this year and seem to be living on past  reputation. I have not heard any fans(only students of the band) jumping up and down for them on any forum. I walked away saying... good show but nothing really stood out and placed them at the top.

Makeing finals will be a victory for any of the bands this year as there is at least 15 bands that should be considered possible  finalist.

    My pics

Seven lakes, CyFalls, Cy Fair, Clements( only because of Extreme Technique across the band ) advance to state.

I do think it is time for Area E to do like every other area in the state and advance more bands to area. Are E should have no less than 25 bands and advanve 5 ,

to state . there is too much talent that is not represented at the state level.

  5. ok So a full day of bands ... To me the best i have seen over all in 6 yrs of attending

CY Falls above all best band today.

    Cy fair still top four

Langham creek - How can you go wrong with send in the Clowns.  But overall not that impreshed with the show . Deserved   the one rateings but will really have to do something different to advance to state.

Clear creek ...Shout out to the Bass Trombone player ... Wow good job. A 2 (NOW f****  WAY !)

Cy ranch Moves up  in my rankings.

Now I really feel sorry for the bands that did not advance, Once again our region  kills there own and will advance 1 maybe 2 cy fairs schools at best . There was only 2 schools today that should not of gotten  a one rateing .

IF I HEARD RIGHT 5 out of 12 school advaance to area ?

    Get a rope !

  6. CF mello , Yes I will be there the Next TWO saturdays at the Berry Center. Start to finish !

Trombone18 ,  having a quality Honor band provides a corp group of muscians to carry the program . If you look at the consistent year to year Honor band winners, they also have a great marching band programs. In my opiniom , the director(s) have to really want to do and enjoy Marching band for any program to be sucessful. My point about  " park and blow " was directed to Baredx, who was  crititical of other programs that park and blow. All bands do it. The Langham creek 2012 show was real bad about that.

I am old school, and appreciate the skill on the field of todays bands, But I like to hear a marching band sound like a marching band ! If I want to hear  An woodwind driven classical piece I will go to the concert hall and listen to it there.  Waiting for the marching bands to bring on  Violins  !  Just kidding.

Just give Every band their  Participation 1 rating at region and move on to Area. Seems that is what all the other region and areas do . We would qualify 6 great derserving  bands to state !

Predictions: in no particuler order. Seven lakes, CY falls, Cy-fair, Clements, Langham creek.  Any band could win or take 5th... should be fun !

  7. First thing I said was  " of the bands I have Seen  "..... I  Have not seen there show, and heard they were down after loosing one of there assistants To U of H. I had  cy falls above you guys in 2012 (in my opinion) . And as far as marching and playing goes... You have in the past always had a lot of stop and blow time with people featured on props or the big stage. I can also Assume Baredex you  are a woodwind player ?

Looking at "Honor band" area results for 2015 Clements and Seven Lakes have the edge in music. Region 27 results for honor band ?

I look forward to seeing every band  this weekend. Best of luck to all.

  8. Be careful with that logic. Not a single 1st place band from Area G has made finals in at least the past 20 years. Areas B, C, and D have consistently had the monopoly on 5A Finals placements for awhile, so bands from other Areas have to work extra hard to be represented.

Ijust don get how some of these bands are judged. Seems like several bands get a higher score from having a good program from year to year instead of just judgeing the performance on the field.. I have seen Langham creeks show 4 times and still do not see the "great" things the judges see. The same goes for spring.. The tents are way to much ! Good luck Area E bands !

  9. I guess the judges had a greater appreciation for Mettalica (UGH) during the finals than the prelims. The headbangers went from 5th to 4th while CyFalls dropped from 3rd to a nice trip home. The judges must into the PCP scene and not Cinderella !

Well to be honest , from where I was sitting Morton ranch blew cyfalls and clements away in both the prelims and finals.... But I am not a judge , just a fan in the stands, I really did not see L:angham creek having that good of a show.

  10. I'll play...

Finalists: Austin*, Cy Woods, Langham Creek, Taylor, Clements*, Cinco Ranch, Cy Falls*, Cy-Fair*, Morton Ranch, Seven Lakes

    *Advance to State

Ok, Just to stir it up !

Finalist . ... Cy fair, Cy woods, Cy- falls, Clements, Morton Ranch, seven lakes, Jersey Village, Langham Creek, austin , Taylor

Going to state. Morton Ranch, Cyfair, Cywoods, (CYfalls/ Clements)
