I am the acting director of the Texas region of SDCA(Small Drum Corps Association, http://thesdca.org), and saw that you were trying to get a marching unit off the ground, or are already involved in the activity . The Texas region of the SDCA is trying to create a vibrant competition circuit here in Texas, and are contacting people who may want to be involved. We are planning a meeting of all of the groups on January 18 in Austin TX. We are hoping to start organizing the region, and planning for shows for the upcoming season. "The Small Drum Corps Association (SDCA) was started in 2007 by Chris Ferrara. Chris started in drum corps as member of the Chicago Royal Airs beginning in 1959, and is a member of the 2012 Class in the Bugler's Hall of Fame. The SDCA came about in response to smaller corps looking for a gratifying venue where they could perform. The SDCA also wanted to fill a niche to encourage the reorganization of corps, no longer in existence, by forming new community drum corps. There was also a need to be flexible to allow any size drum corps to perform. Membership and performances are open to all classes including junior, senior, alumni and all-age corps. In addition, membership is open to drum lines, color guards. and bands. SDCA Members may also belong to multiple organizations such as DCI or DCA. The additional performances provided by the SDCA can only better a corps for DCI or DCA competition, if that is the goal. The SDCA supports these opportunities through a friendly people's choice competition. As a member driven association we work together to aid one another in performance quality. Based in the Midwest, the SDCA recently expanded and now has Regional Directors in the Eastern, Northern, Central Midwest, Texas and Southern California. This opens up opportunities to perform, without the expense of traveling great distances with limited time available."
