This is all the info I’ve gathered from the beginning part of this day

Bridgeland- pretty much exactly where they were last year state finals is still probably the goal

cy woods- pushing for state finals made finals at boa south Houston waiting to see where they place in finals

Cy fair- there show has a lot of great moments not quite sure how it will stack up against others at uil but it’s a great boa show

seven lakes- they are building a lot of momentum riding off of making state finals last year pretty much a lock for state

Langham Creek- Musically they are a state level band one Judge had them beating bridgeland today visuals and percussion need A lot of work really held back there’re scores today

Katy- I think they are pretty much still in the same ballpark as last year not quite good enough for state

these are all the bands I’ve really paid attention to today

Musically I think langham is really nice, pretty sound. My only thing is the consistency of the judging lol

I really enjoyed Tompkins at BOA today.

I guess today shows that Seven Lakes is a clear front runner here.

1. 7L

2. bridgeland?
3. cy woods

4/5 jordan/cinco

6. cy fair?

7. Tompkins

feels strange putting cy fair that low but they did not do as well as i thought this week.

Don’t really know where to put Bridgeland since they did well at their competition today but did lose to Cy Fair last weekend

Wouldn't put Cy-Fair so low just yet. We got a remember these 2 contests ALWAYS have very interesting and skewed judging in between. Clear Brook made top half at Conroe, but at South Houston they got 18th? Not to mention Cy Fair got 1st at North Houston while Friendswood got 10th? (i believe?) And all the sudden within a week they're switched? I think we should definitely wait another week or two. It's inconsistent, and we have no idea how Cinco or Jordan would do because they didn't compete.

Just shows the difficulty in comparing across different contests, different judges, and in battle of Berry’s case, different rubrics. You’ll never convince me that a large panel of experienced boa judges would consistently put cyfair below 7L, Jordan, Cinco, etc. Cyfair beat the woodlands for the music caption—so are we to say that the bands outscoring cyfair on music at boa south hou would beat the woodlands in that caption? That’s hilarious.

what’s happening is boa isn’t adequately training its judges for consistency. And I’d maybe understand if the scores were separated by fractions of a point, but that’s not the case, these are wild swings. This is on boa. They can’t just hire judges as contractors and throw them in there and trust them because of their pedigree or CV. And if boa is indeed training them, well, coulda fooled me.

also remember that what happens at boa is hardly a predictor for UIL. Different animal.

I agree with this there is just to many unknowns and inconsistencies to be able to make knowledgeable predictions

I fully agree. Some shows just are not built for BOA, like langham tompkins and i even think jordans(even though they made finals at san marcos) shows will just see much more success on the UIL and katy marching fest grading scale than boa scale.

Then there’s me just realizing Cy-Fair got a better score in prelims than in finals. Am I right I’m not sure?

So did Pearland. Prelim 86.4  Finals 85.225

Judges rotate, small changes aren’t uncommon.

I’m conflicted on seven lakes’ show. Unique and almost old timey in a way, really visually appealing to watch. But kind of a one trick pony with all of the grid formations.

There is so much to this show that is still being worked out and just not ready for comp yet (and not the reactionary changes).

The show will make much more sense and I think will be such a great visual story. Winning Music caption in finals was a great experience for the kids!

I root for all these bands. So much work goes into it, the last place bands’ kids work just as hard. Everyone should get to have that school first experience, or unexpected victory/advancement at least once! 🫡

Honestly yeah. Schools try to build shows to do better in certain contests. If a school like Jordan built there show for boa b/c they were going for BOA gand nats or smt it would look very different....
