UIL 5A Area B 2025
cheesecurd21 replied to Marchin Band's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I belive its changed from a one judge for multiple aspects system to a one judge for brass, woodwinds, visual, ind visual, and ge. Last year there were lots of odd varying and "inaccurate" results from judges because they were maybe not qualified to judge as much as they were assigned or just couldn't properly judge it. This explains some pretty surprising results last year, which is why I think a good portion of the schools who really jumped up may not be able to maintain it this year, but who knows. They by all means earned the score they got, so no hate to anyone. -

Oof. Hopefully Memorial doesn't take a hit and they can keep up the finals placements -

Didn't one of the other top 10 schools get a new one? Besides North, and he was already the assistant prior to being head anyways -

Just checked area from last year, mixed Reedy and Walnut up, oops... Although now that I think about it Reedy really does have a serious chance at getting 5th or maybe even 4th -

Nope not Walnut but I do know some kids there! But I'm pretty sure they scored very well last year, right? -

Competition wise and scoring wise Walnut has done super well especially considering how short of a period they've been open. I still feel like they'll beat out Reedy despite what we might think differently from the judges... -
Predictions with the new addition of Anna since we’re almost a month out: 1. Emerson (I honestly think their guard and visual will just completely outshine the rest of the comp and barely put them ahead of Wylie) 2. Wylie East (Could snag first but read above) 3. Panther Creek (crazy good development especially for being in 4a) 4. Richardson 5. Anna (they didn’t shape up well at all when moving up to 5a, nevertheless still very talented) 6. Plano West 7. Guyer 8. Newman Smith I assume because of how small it is there won’t be a prelims/finals? Does anybody know more

I agree with walnut being up there in sixth, but I think there's a possibility they pull even higher up to maybe 5th and if super lucky 4th with some serious work this year -

How do we think the new judging system will impact the results? Last year had some pretty significant changes in results compared to the previous years. I still think Colony has a decent chance of placing over some of the Frisco schools like Memorial and Liberty -

Honestly I just don't see Heritage and Liberty keeping up the momentum from last year. Both bands had great performances but I think it's most likely to see them in the 10-12 range. Memorial seems like they could keep that top 10 spot, and I feel better about having Colony and Emerson (and even Independence) higher up this year despite not having the best showing last year -

After having that early time last year I think they should be in a better position. At least they're not going directly after Argyle again I believe it was Lone Star does also look like they're in a great place to win prelims, and Walnut may have a surprising result as well Anyways here's some way too early prelims results predictions 1. Lone Star 2. Wakeland 3 - 4. MN/LT 5 - 7. Walnut/Emerson/Argyle 8 - 10. Between Reedy/Heritage/Liberty/Colony, even Memorial or Independence I guess, could be any of the Frisco schools in that back range -

Any new predictions made in the past week or two? -
I second this so much, they‘re doing insane work from what i’ve heard as well. I think they could be top 5, just saying. With that here’s my predictions 1. Wylie 2. Pearce 3. Rockhill 4. Emerson 5. Argyle/Rockwall 6. Rockwall/Argyle 7. Lebanon 8. Colleyville 9. Reedy 10. Plano East HM: Celina Argyle might be a shocker, but I don’t think they can carry the momentum this year. I could see Celina coming in as another shocker besides being 4A. Im telling you guys I think Emerson will be a huge shocker this year That being said I think the top 2 is solidly between Pearce and Wylie

With all the recent improvements and leaks ive seen/heard I honestly think Walnut and Emerson are going to make massive improvements this year. I think both are going to be high prospects for the 5-7 spots, possibly one sneaking into 4th place as Argyle is looking less promising this season. That being said Wakeland and Lone Star are still guaranteed top 2 in my eyes, and with the way the judges like North they are a solid third. With the new judging changes/director changes and other things, I don't think Liberty, Heritage, and Reedy can keep up the placements they got last year. A lot of their key members recently graduated as well, so who knows how they'll do following some surprising results in 2024
