  1. I mean, they had a good year last year. That low brass and trombone feature at the beginning I think was really cool but Hanna did this the past 2 years where they made state and then didn’t. I’m excited to hear their low brass again but don’t see them making top 3. The Laredo schools will take the spots
  2. No, I think Alexander is getting first place sorry for my mistake. Hanna had a good year but I feel like they are going to be on off every year. Need to wait till shows start coming out.
  3. I feel like Edinburgh may surprise a lot of people this year. Weslaco is always on that cusp of just making it they have to make it one year!!! and LOL, there’s no way Alexander gets 3rd, especially over Hanna. I don’t see them making it to top 3 this year
  4. I guess I’ll start this off with my predictions for Area Finals this year 1 - Laredo Alexander 2 - Laredo United (State ^) 3 - Weslaco 4 - Edinburgh 5 - Brownsville Hanna 6 - PSJA 7 - Los Fresnos Some honorable mentions that could make it are Harlingen, Edinburgh North, or Veterans making finals. I see this as a wildcard year where a lot of bands have potential to make finals, but I do think only Alexander United are the top for me
  5. Never heard pace before I only listen to 6A but the show theme seems very cool. Is sharyland good? I know they make state but I’ve never really payed any attention to a show. Maybe I should get into 5a
  6. I want to see Braswell at state. They seem like they have a good shot despite the shaky history
  7. I'm personally really hoping I get to see Brownsville Pace at state this year. They have a really cool show concept with some really good selections, and I think they can pull it off. What do you think?
  8. This should be a fun year, I want to hear the thoughts on what bands will take it at Area this year.
  9. Hanna’s show was really fun. The little low brass trombone thing at the beginning of Hanna’s show sounds STRONG, good for them. They seem to be backfield too! That bass trombone sounds amazing in the mix. Low brass, you all stepped up BIG TIME. Props to their section and director for that. I only saw like 3-4 mellophones on the field and they sounded like a full section, great work! That octopus attacking the ship was an amazing touch. Alexander’s mellophones stepped it up this year big time, they sound really nice and the sound is there. The trombone soloist was a fun touch, and I really loved the flute solos. The end was so heartwarming and I was HOOKED! Here’s to seeing what production will be put out next year, Alexander always puts out strong show design. Next year should be as good if not better for Area G bands!
  10. The show I liked the music from the most (arrangement wise) had to be the Edinburgh opener. I know Little Fugue is overplayed in the marching world, but the way they did it with the Saxaphone quartet and that big sudden hit was awesome. The only thing is I felt it was a little overconfident at some spots and they went past their best sounds at some point, but you could tell the amount of passion and energy the kids had while marching and playing that show. Really entertaining and a great production overall
  11. a lot of the music is not difficult at all, but there’s also to take into account, most of the playing is not being done while holding, there is a lot of playing while marching and doing visual work. also not to mention, the ending with the brass is extremely exposed and hard to pull off after marching that full movement before. there’s a lot more to it than just surface level. either way, this contest was packed with great bands, even non-finalists.
