I agree with most of this but where is Hanna?!? I would personally have them taking the last finals spot. Edinburg North is right on the bubble this year depending on how things go for them at prelims As of now, I’d have to say my predictions are 1. Laredo United 2. Laredo Alexander 3. Harlingen/Los Fresnos ———————— 4. Los Fresnos/Harlingen 5. Weslaco 6. PSJA 7. Brownsville Hanna ———————— 8. Edinburg North 9. Edinburg 10. Brownsville Vets 11. San Benito 12. La Joya 13. Laredo LBJ 14. Edinburg Econ. 15. Laredo United South The third spot is going to be a real battle between all of the non-Laredo finals bands. It’s going to hard for the judges to decide who deserves to go, everyone is so good this year! It will come down to the very smallest detail in how these bands all add nuance to their music and technique to their step. That content score is what could determine how this all goes down as well! Never deny the power of the audience themselves in adding to that general effect! If Weslaco, PSJA, or Hanna level it up, anything could happen with these results. Just a day away and still so close to really rank these wonderful groups. 95 degrees in McAllen tomorrow (whatever happened to fall?), so I hope every ensemble has an outstanding performance regardless of this band camp weather! Best of luck to everyone performing tomorrow! -

It's going to be a very, very competitive contest this Saturday. All of these shows are so good that the judges will have a very hard time selecting the top 7 for finals. We may see a band or two that always makes it to the finals round be pushed out of it this year simply due to the nature of how these contests are judged. It all comes down to the very execution of each show, that's what will get these bands into the finals round as well as the three state spots. Now for my predictions, I still think JBA and United are pretty much locked for the first two spots. However, it will be a competition between them to see who gets to take the Area Title this year. Now for the third spot, it could honestly be anyone else in finals. My personal favorites to take the spot are Los Fresnos and Harlingen. Los Fresnos opted for a more traditional show, but the execution and ensemble sound is absolutely phenomenal, quality over quantity! And Harlingen, their show really tells a story this year! It was definitely a fan favorite at the Region 28 Pigskin this year. Unfortunate that they're not as big as they used to be, but the energy they can produce for their numbers is incredible! The other bands that will absolutely make finals in my opinion, in no particular order, are PSJA, Weslaco, and Brownsville Hanna. Wish I could put the Edinburg schools on here as well, so much good talent in this Area that it's so unfortunate only 7 can advance to finals!! What are y'all's thoughts on how this Area will play out? Any predictions for upsets? -

Well folks, it’s the night before the City of Palms contest! We’re at the heart of the season now, and I can’t wait to see how the 6A bands sound tomorrow evening. I wonder if any band will make a major jump tomorrow night. What do you all think? Any recent halftime show updates?? I personally believe Hanna and Weslaco will level it up. Could Harlingen bring the same sheer energy of last Saturday to McAllen?? I believe so. Los Fresnos is another group that will definetly place high at this contest as well. My predictions for the top 5: 1. United 2. Harlingen 3. Weslaco 4. Hanna 5. Los Fresnos Whoever the top 5 are, it’ll absolutely be very close! This is an activity where every single detail matters from start to finish, so we’ll just have to see what the judges think of these wonderful groups tomorrow! -

Good to hear! Hope to see catch them again at City of Palms this Saturday, it’s going to be a real good contest, with 12 out of the 15 6A bands performing that day! United making their first appearance in a RGV comp, wonder how that will shake things up! JBA will not be present, so most of Area G will not face off against them again until Area. Also not going to City of Palms are Edinburgh North and United South. This week we will get a more solid idea of what the final placings will be at Area. What do y’all think? Let’s get some discussion going on which bands might level up, down, or stay the same. And about my predictions- I knew I was missing a band haha. I would put Weslaco at 5th, shifting everything below down a spot. The results are going to be very very close regardless, lots of hardworking groups down here! -

Last night was absolutely phenomenal. I really enjoyed seeing 6A at San Benito last night. Amazing shows all throughout. And HARLINGEN as champions!! What a comeback from last year! I absolutely enjoyed their show, way to set the standard for 6A! It's always incredible to see a band rise up like that, and I could tell the rest of the audience was into it, especially that ending. Their sound is ridiculously big and clear for a band of their size, wonder if the judges saw that! The other medalists last night, Weslaco and Los Fresnos, blew me away as well. Love the concept behind Weslaco's show, and the electronic and front ensemble textures add so much to the overall vibe of it. Los Fresnos woodwinds never fail to impress me. Those runs are not for the weak! Their show appears to be about travelling the world I believe. Either way, such a clean sound and can't wait to see how much more they grow by Area. Edinburg had a really fun show too. The circus theme has so much potential and could seriously surprise in the remaining weeks. Not too sure about Hanna, I'm sure the final product will be much, much better as they always peak by Area, but as of right now it's pretty barebones compared to previous years. I'm pretty certain uniforms aren't final, but what about the props? Wonder if they'll surprise again like with the ship last year! Hanna is a great program, but they just need that push to get back into the top! The music sounds really good, but listening to it again, I hear a tuba just goin' for it back there! No way they will be out of finals this year, however. As of right now, my predictions for Area Finals are the following: STATE: 1. JBA/United 2. United/JBA 3. Harlingen/Los Fresnos FINALS: 4. Los Fresnos/Harlingen 5. Edinburgh North 6. Hanna 7. Edinburg FINALS BUBBLE: 8. PSJA 9. Bville Vets -

That's really strange. I would take that rumor with a grain of salt, I doubt they would drop out of a competition in the October season. Were they just taking it too slow these past two months with rehearsals/drill learning, or is something else going on? -

These are some good predictions, although I would swap Hanna and Veterans in my opinion as Hanna may get the upper-hand musically, especially in a UIL-style contest where music is given a more generous cut of the points. Definitely looking forward to seeing where Harlingen is at, I haven't gotten around to see a more recent run of their show. If they show up on Saturday with a more complete product, I can totally see them beating out Hanna for now, as was the case for early-season last year. Visually, there is still some cleaning to be done with them, however. Not sure what the current status is with Hanna, but their most recent run was still with their traditional unis and no props. I have a strong feeling we will be seeing a different case on Saturday, same with all the other bands! I can't wait to see the (close to) final designs of these amazing shows. I haven't seen Bville Vets or Economedes, so I can't say much on them. We should be getting a much closer look at what the Finals lineup will look like on the 25th. Fingers crossed for all 15 bands to score a 1 at their regional contest, I'd love to see what band secures that bronze spot for state! -

I absolutely agree. I have no doubts that Harlingen wants it this year, they’ve been out of finals for two years and their 2022 state run still lives in the memories of the oldest members! From rewatching their 2023 and 2024 productions, they seem to really have leveled up in all aspects of performance. Possibly a staff or writing change? Those kids sound awesome. Weslaco and LF are the real deals this contest. I can see them displaying much higher levels of execution this weekend, after all it’s been almost two weeks since BOA, and Weslaco wasn’t present at that comp, who knows, they might surprise. They’ve been right on the doorstep of state for so long that they must all be real hungry for it. After reading the comments on Hanna, I hope they can level back up in time for area, and they usually do! Classic program with such a signature sound that I wouldn’t put out of the top 5 this year. Can’t wait to see Edinburg, last year they were absolutely dominating the early season but fell short at area. Like others are saying, it’s only really locked for JBA and possibly LF and United, but that 3rd spot could be anyone really. Area G is always fun because of how close the bands all are! For that spot it could honestly be anyone from Weslaco, both Edinburgh schools, Hanna, PSJA, or Harlingen. It’s all gonna come down to the smallest details. And yes, about JBA, I’m not exactly sure about their schedule, but they usually attend a contest or two upstate. -

Well everyone, we’re right on the doorstep of the “Bandtober” competition season! Really excited to see some good bands in San Benito this Saturday, it’s going to be a great showcase of talent from over half of the 6A Bands! As for my predictions for this contest, I can see Los Fresnos winning big, their show is phenomenal this year! Weslaco and Edinburg will both be in the matchup for 2nd or 3rd place, anything could happen with those two bands, really looking forward to see where they stand. Likewise, I also wouldn’t count Hanna out just yet, they usually level up big time in the road leading up to area, trust the process, they always a very talented group and I have no doubt they want to defend their silver medal, however as of now, I would put them for 4th or 5th at the SB comp. As for Harlingen, I heard their most recent run and WOW! Way to go. I also wouldn’t count this group out of finals, I can see them making 4th at San Benito, but they could potentially sneak into that 3rd spot. At UISD, it’ll be close matchup between JBA and United, I can see a rivalry growing between these groups as they get more neck to neck in their productions! What are y’all’s thoughts? What bands do y’all see making an “upset” at area this year? It’s going to be a fun season!
