  1. I mean, the same could be said for your opinion on it being fun.
  2. I'm not sure Chisholm is a lock for finals. They finished 20 out of 21 at BOA mid-cities and 9th at Birdville. Maybe just a bad showing though? CH finished 2 places behind Chilsholm at Birdville. To me, those numbers aren't showing a lock for finals. I also found Midlothian's show to be boring. Again, maybe a bad run? I do like Aledo, Richland, Cen10, Azle, and maybe Granbury, but I don't think Brewer or Saginaw will make. It's possible though.
  3. IDK, it might have been the video I watched, but I found Midlothian's performance boring. It didn't hold my attention very well. I don't think BC will challenge Aledo for 1st. I like their show, but Aledo's gonna Aledo. I don't like it, but it is what it is. Having a 9th grade campus that doesn't could toward their UIL numbers but can be used for their UIL activities is kind of shady. It means their 6A organizations in 5A areas which is not ok IMO. But, they do put on a good show and will most likely take 1st barring some unforeseen circumstances.
  4. Someone asked for the full scores. They finally posted: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dVzgH1K0o2vxWKefpBNfc1zX9S9i7Zzb/view?usp=drivesdk Ryan and Sherman were really close to each other.
  5. Maybe we should do it like the NBA. Lowest scores from the previous year get the best time slot and it works down to highest scores get the earliest slot.
  6. Off topic, I’m sorry, but was anyone at the Region 30 contest today between 10:15 and 12:15 and see a Silver Ford Explorer get hit in the parking lot? Someone hit me and left no note.☹️ The police are looking at the cameras, but I thought I’d reach out to some people who may have been there.
  7. Polytechnic didn’t advance. Saw them today. I enjoyed their show, but it’s hard because they’re so small with no visuals.
  8. Is this the draw order for this year?
  9. No one means that winning is the only outcome. But, it is disheartening to students who work their tails off to not even be considered for a finalist position because of their band size. If you never make it to finals, and always end up on the lower scoring side because your program is so small then kids aren't going to want to be in that program because it's not showing that it's excelling even if the only reason that they aren't qualifying is because of their size.
  10. It does, but when you don't have the kids then you don't have the kids.
  11. It could, but bands like Bowie and GP used to have very large programs, but due to the way the districts have set up the schools it is almost impossible for students to be in the band program at Bowie now. They've got some sort of collegiate thing going on over there which doesn't give them time in their schedules to be in fine arts. I think any director that would purposely limit the number of students in a band program shouldn't be a high school band director though.
  12. I don't understand how you don't see that it's harder for smaller bands to compete against larger bands. That's why we have schools categorized with 1A, 2A, 3A etc in the first place. In theory a 6A school should have a large band while a 1A school should have a smaller band, so they wouldn't compete against each other.
  13. It doesn't necessarily "dictate", but it does make it extremely difficult. Especially when it seems that almost all of the bands who go to state are very large. Bowie and GP would have placed higher if they were with bands of similar size.
  14. Yes, they do look and sound different when they're larger which is why we should do it like Drill Teams do. They have small class, medium class, and large class. You can't "beget success" when you can't compete because of your size. It shouldn't be based on school size, it should be based on program size.
  15. They need a rubric or something. It's next to impossible to advance unless you're a gigantic band. Bands like Bowie and GP who are 6A schools, but not 6A size bands can't compete with bands like TC who have 4x the people. The way UIL has always categorized size doesn't work in today's school system. Bands should be categorized by program size not school size.
  16. Yeah they were. If you look at the scores the judges were all over the place with Ridge. One scored them 10 places ahead of another in music, and the visual judges did the same. I can't agree with the scoring on Ridge at all. They were definitely better than some of the bands that placed above them.
