  1. Congratulations to all the bands!!! JBA did what they came there to do with Hanna and Edinburg getting the other 2 spots. I was there for both prelims and finals so here are my thoughts: The Valley bands are getting SO MUCH BETTER. After hearing all these bands, especially the finalist bands, each one of them had something just absolutely amazing that impressed me. It makes me so incredibly happy seeing them improve every year. The placements definitely surprised me! I heard united’s both performances and they sounded amazing. Of course i don’t wanna say the judges are wrong, but it’s just very confusing! I do think they should’ve been way higher. I’m not sure what happened, but that must’ve been heartbreaking for the kids💔 Another band that really impressed me was Los Fresnos. They were just so clean and that brass was AWESOME. Overall, it’s a little hard for me to understand what the judges were looking for. But at the end of the day i’m not a judge! EVERYONE sounded awesome and this year has been a blast for 6a Area G! Already excited for next year!!
  2. darn, Area G is one of those areas where, no matter how many times the bands have competed against each other leading up to area, you never really know what’s going to happen. I’ve never seen anyone make an accurate prediction. It’s always so nerve-wracking! I'm very excited!
  3. I'm loving this year for Area G. I feel like it's been more difficult than usual to rank the bands and I love that! My finals predictions as of now: 1. United 2. Alexander 3. Weslaco 4. PSJA 5. Los Fresnos 6.Harlingen 7.Hanna 8.Edinburg/Edinburg North I recognize the hot take of having United 1st. I just really like their show and they've been getting better with each performance. Yes the prediction is slightly biased, but I know it's not impossible! Who doesn't love a good underdog story?! I feel like Weslaco and PSJA can switch. I think Weslaco is really clean, but I feel they're missing dynamic range in their playing, so there's a chance PSJA takes the spot. As bad as I want Los Fresnos getting a well-deserved state run, the other bands have made so many improvements this year, super competitive! This year will be crazy! I'm hoping we get some surprises!
  4. Wow! I was worried the slotting would hurt United, but wow was I wrong. They’re looking scary! Weslaco sure seems to be doing very well this year, a state run would be awesome! I also believe PSJA took best colorguard! Congrats to them. Although Hanna is out of the top 5, I still believe they’ve made lots of improvements and will continue to do so. Congrats to all the bands!
  5. Exciting day! Will anyone here be at City of Palms in person?
  6. My predictions for City of Palms: 1. United 2. Harlingen 3. Weslaco 4. Los Fresnos 5. Edinburgh 6. Hanna 7. PSJA 8. San Benito 9. Veterans 10. La Joya 11. LBJ 12. Econemedes I think United should win this, however i’m a little worried by the fact that they are the very first 6a band to go. Looks like their performance is gonna have to be really memorable for judges to agree. I really hope Los Fresnos gets into the top 2! Right now i just have them at a safe 4th. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Hanna made a few jumps. I hope all bands do well🙏!
  7. If every 6a band in Area G gets a division 1, then they’ll be 3 advancing! Not everyone got a division 1 last year😔 hence why they took 2.
  8. Oh wow! I would love to get confirmation somehow because my statement was based on what some united staff told me! It is possible I misheard. My apologies! I agree they are both doing amazing!
  9. Harlingen!!! Amazing seeing them up there. As for UISD festival results: 1st:JBA 2nd:United 3rd:Edinburg North There was a 9 point gap between United and Edinburg North. And there was a 1 point gap between JBA and United. I’m loving what i’m seeing from all these bands! It’s still a toss up!
  10. Yeah JBA's cleanliness is so hard to beat, I won't be surprised at all if they go undefeated against area g bands this year. Something JBA's show this year is far more enjoyable to me than their last few years. They're doing great! I would say United's show is my favorite this year, but I haven't seen all the Area G shows!
  11. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPSHHSeDcro/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Look at this Instagram post featuring United! Only clip I've been able to find of them.
  12. Okay, the bands going to UISD according to txbands prediction forms: JBA, UHS, Edinburg North, United South, LBJ, Nixon, Martin, Ciggaroa, and Hector J. Garcia ECHS(?). I think 1. JBA 2. United 3. Edinburg North 4. United South I assume JBA and United will perform their whole show on Saturday. I want to say United takes it, but JBA just looks and sounds soo good, it's hard to imagine them not getting 1st. JBA is significantly cleaner than the rest of Area G right now, so I say they take the win for UISD. However, I think United has a higher ceiling this year. I haven't been able to find a recording of Edinburg North. Does anyone have one? Also! United South has gotten a new head director. The new USHS head director was the brass director for United for 12 years prior. Exciting!
  13. Here is the schedule for San Benito festival: https://www.region28band.org/2025 San Benito MB Contest Schedule (Updated).pdf San Benito HS appears to be an exhibition performance. My San Benito Marching Festival Prediction: 1. Los Fresnos 2. Edinburg 3. Weslaco (haven't seen) 4. Hanna 5. Harlingen 6. Veterans 7. Economedes Hot take: I can see Edinburg possibly winning if they make some nice improvements. Yes, Los Fresnos placed significantly higher than Edinburg at BOA Mcallen, however if you exclude the General effect scores, then Edinburg gains the upper-hand in scoring over Los Fresnos. Just something to think about!
  14. I 100% agree we shouldn't count Hanna out at all. They always have major improvements in overall sound and cleanliness when they need it most(area). I remember last year they looked and sounded a lottt stronger at area than at any other prior comp! Very excited for the San Benito Festival. Is anyone here going? I would love to have someone give results when they're out. I always struggle to find the results of the valley hosted competitions. UISD Marching Festival is also this Saturday. I think I can keep track of that. The big Matchup there is JBA and United.
  15. From what i’ve seen, the scoring is definitely different with USbands! Bands tend to score higher at USbands vs at BOA. However, I recommend to never cross compare scores with high school marching band scores, even if all the scores come from different BOA events 😅I’ve tried numerous times and it’s never come out accurate for me.
  16. Okay so United has stepped it up this year! At the USbands Austin Regional they placed 1st in “Group lV” and they tied for 3rd overall at prelims (4th with tie breaker). And at finals they jumped up to 2nd Place Overall!! They were only behind Louis d Brandeis which is a very good band on the rise. I had the pleasure of watching United’s show and it’s an overall just amazing show which notably includes Caravan as a musical selection which sounds super cool. The show was not complete with the ballad being the last mvmt. Ballad still needs work, but wow it was just a super fun show to watch. Was anyone else there ?
  17. 100%!! I heard their new band director speaking to the band after the results, it sounded like he’s already hungry for that spot next year!! He really knows his stuff.
  18. I personally think the 2 best bands got the deserved spots!! They were ranked 1st and 2nd both prelims and finals!! Alexander getting 1st place from ALL music judges in prelims! Hanna left a gap between them and United at prelims. Congrats to all bands! That being said, some final thoughts. I heard United’s improvement prior to area never knew the improvement was that great!! They went from possibly not being a finals contender to 3rd place at prelims! I think United definitely had the most difficult show on the field, it made it hard to achieve! They still have the trend of going down at finals, once they fix that they’ll be up there again. Good for them!! Seeing LF at state would’ve been great, I wish Area G had lots of 6a bands again:( Let’s please try not to be negative to any bands from the competition! Every year the judging is close, every band wanted one of those spots for state!
  19. My predictions 1. Alexander 2. Edinburg North (or 3rd) 3. Edinburg (or 2nd) 4. Weslaco (or 5th) 5. Hanna (or 4th) 6. United 7. Harlingen 8. Psja/ Los Fresnos Literally all of these could be completely wrong! Area G is always close in judging, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see an upset.
  20. Very exciting! Can’t wait! A lot of the top bands are in the first block before the break!! I think that’ll make the judging more accurate 🙏I recently got to hear United.. They have definitely improved a lot wow. We’ll see if it’s enough for finals or state!
  21. Love the enthusiasm you have for Area G, it’s obvious you’re a Harlingen fan. Let’s try not to be disrespectful towards other bands! Not sure if you were trying to come off that way, but that’s how it feels for me. Just be careful! If Area G has showed us anything , it’s that these results are very unpredictable! Literally anything could happen!
  22. Thank you for the updates! I’ve heard rumors that United wasn’t that far off from Alexander in terms of scoring.. I wonder if we’ll see some movement soon… Edinburg North is having an amazing season! I’m glad to see they’re back at the top. City of Palms is this weekend.. Let’s see some predictions! Anyone got a full schedule?
  23. Couple of competitions have happened! Any thoughts so far? I've been trying to find the results for the San Benito Marching Festival, but I can't find anything!
  24. Uil state prelims: United - 35th Psja - 39th Alexander- 41
  25. My finalists prediction United Alexander Hanna Edinburg San Benito Psja Los Fresnos
