  1. We have four, not including our color guard guy.
  2. Gusto is definately what we're missing. you know how your band director every year repeats that one line over and over and over and over again? This year, our director says "You gotta sell it to the audience!" Over and Over and Over.... yeah...if YOU guys have a "pseudo-ballad" what the heck do we have? Ours lasts for like, ten seconds. Can't wait to play at state!! Oh yeah....uhm....*hug*?
  3. Your're drill-writer's style was very obvious, and stoods out against many of the other bands'. i agree with Serardian in the line rotations comment, but i guess with that drill, it's be hard for a high school band NOT to have that issue. LOVED the last two sets! completely by surprise, although, in my unlearned opinion, i would've like more playing in the ballad. i thought you guys played exceptionally well and was disappointed when i didnt get to hear you play a ballad. But what a cool show! I bet you guys had a blast performing it! i only wish you could could join us at state. that was some sight for sore eyse, huh? dont know why he's here, just never had a reason to use him.
  4. Look all I'm saying is: There are two kinds of people in this world: people who divide people into two groups and everyone else.
  5. Solidarity abounds among coteries as the the whole multiplies outward, bonding and strengthening against the mass... At least, that's whit i think should happen.
  6. that and they're the valley band that's notorious for dancing.
  7. True. One of the prelims judges put us in 27th while the others settled around 7th. it was disconcerting, but it may just be a marginal difference in opinion. Hanna knows how it feels to not go to state, believe me...i was a sophomore and it was horrible. i hope you all the best; from what i heard, Sharyland had NOTHING to be ashamed about. WOOP!
  8. erm...why is everyone complaining about inconsistent judging?? isnt the point of a Prelims/Finals format to give the bands a second chance? it would be stupid to have this kind of format if all the judging stayed the same as Prelims. i thought that was obvious.
  9. To be honest, I was shocked when you guys (Sharyland) didnt make it. im from Hanna and when they announced Harlingen as second I was soo sure you guys got it...not because I had seen you, but because I heard so many great things about you guys from our boosters and BISD's Fine Arts Department. I can't speak for the judges, but what really makes the judging inconsistent is the switching in what each one judges, how the two marching judges in Prelims judge music in Finals. Of course, they arent going to think the exact same way the other judges did and of course you wont perform the exact same way you did in Prelims. And from the breakdown in what each judge ranked a particular school, you can see that they seldom agreed...i think our Prelims rankings were something like "7,6,10,27,5". I know it seems disconcerting that we jumped from 9th to 1st, but i promise that it was only because our first performance wasnt very good, and our second one was the best one that we ever did. Heaven knows that politics run ragged in the high school band circles, but the way this competition is judged is what skews the scores. And for what its worth, we dont have a dance in our show. I know it cant be completely taken in because I'm going to state, but something my theatre teacher always tells us is that "you dont need anyone to tell you that you were good to know you are good. Some people will see it in you, and some wont, but that cant even begin to dictate what is actually there." (i know thats what they all say, but i think its true.)
