As of right now I believe we have:

  1. The Woodlands
  2. Round Rock
  3. Claudia Taylor Johnson
  4. Hebron
  5. Pearland

I think CTJ is going to be every other year now along with the Woodlands and Round Rock, and Hebron has confirmed internally for a while that they will be back in 2023. Pearland has confirmed a trip, and I think there are a few other bands that are rumored, some of whom would be first-timers.

Oh yes!!!

The rumor at Vandy is that they are going. Their directors usually only travel to Nats if they are going to go the next year, just to scout out hotels and such, and guess who was the nats this year!

But don't they have the Macy's Parade? I would love for them to go to GN again.

Leander ISD doesn't allow multiple out of state trips the same year. So if Macy's is happening, GNats is not.

I believe the historical precedent is no out of state trips in consecutive years. Otherwise, Macy’s would have been 2022-2023 school year and GNats 2023 would have been 2023-2024 school year and a trip would have been “possible”. That still seems unlikely given the amount of fundraising required.

As it were, if Vandy goes again, it would seem GNats 2024 would be the earliest edition they would conceivably attend.

The only reason to be aware of why CTJ wouldn't be going is that they are set for a director change this coming year. Pearland has been "confirmed" by multiple outside sources, but nothing has been said directly to parents or students besides "we'll think about it if we make finals". 3/4 Pearland directors did travel to GN this past week though, however, I'd still be wary of them not going as well. The only ones I believe are 100% set on going are Woodlands, Hebron, and Round Rock, but I definitely believe CTJ and Pearland have an 80% chance of going as well.

Oh ok. Why was their grand nats participation contingent on that?

I mean it costs a lot to go to grand nats and it's logistically the hardest thing a band program can do besides maybe Rose Parade or Macy's Parade, you have to show you can be successful in your own state before you take on a challenge like grand nats. Not just the competitive challenge, but having the maturity in your program to face the challenge of the biggest out of state band competition.

If you made finals at both and you’ve become more consistent in making it(especially when it comes to BOASA) as Pearland has become, you stand to fare pretty well at Grand Nats! You want your first trip to be as successful as possible for the students, it’s a reasonable rationale
