UIL 6A Area H Contest 2022

Recommended Posts

District 11 needs to move out of this Area and go back to where there were in the early 2000s. It’s sad that these kids work so hard but can’t advance since all of district 32 wins state.

They’d advance in half of the other area competitions.

Not sure what the difference is with the Austin schools. It’s decided by judges so perception is a key factor. They just assume they are better now and get the benefit of the doubt.

Or, the Austin area bands that you are referring to are just that good.  A lot of judges in a lot of competitions as well as many others very familiar with the activity all have similar opinions of those bands. So some sort of unfair evaluation is a tough charge to make stick.

I'd maybe agree if it weren't for the amazing growth we're seeing from all the bands. A few years ago, Lake Travis was around the same caliber as those now in the bottom half of finals (by no means bad). They've since really grown into this area.

We're seeing this growth most notably in Brandeis, but O'Connor and Stevens are also stepping up to the plate. This isn't even mentioning the beautiful growth from Del Rio.

Even those not in finals we're putting on shows that would've made the cut  a few years ago. Despite the placement, Marshall put on a gorgeous show and is looking like they're gonna have a great winter season.

NISD and Del Rio will survive without state for now. They'll one day dominate at area and even State and BOA, but right now they're working up to it.

Brennan has also been on the rise for quite some time - consistently placing higher every year they have been in the 6A contest for Area H - now back-to-back in finals appearances.

You can go ahead stop with this type of stuff.

If you think the top 4 bands at Area H were scored that way because they "get the benefit of the doubt,"

you're not existing in the same reality that everyone else is.

I do wonder why Dripping Springs didn't area with the west Austin/Leander schools this year. Geographically, it only makes sense. Imagine if that had actually happened?

The alignment didn't change - Dripping Springs is in the same Region they were before, they just moved up to 6A.

If that had happened, Westwood would be going to State and Lake Travis would not.
