Lake Ridge has an insanely strong brass this year. Wouldn't be surprised if they steal a state spot. (Hopefully Duncanville won't get 8th this year!)

Yeah definitely could see Lake Ridge going to state this year! Back to the Wild was a great show. Ducanville is in a ruff spot after last year. Area prelims was really there only high placement at any comp, which the only one they went to other than area was the McKinney comp where they got 8th below many 5A programs. Seems like midland is all they have of now before area, so with this being said, they could possibly not even make finals if they don’t pick it up from the last couple of years

They’re always a very solid all-around band, and the Mansfield schools as a whole are often a bit overlooked, but I hope they all begin to make their mark more this year and the coming years!

Something to note about the Mansfield schools... they all have one fewer band director than most of the 6A schools they are competing with at the finals/advancement to state level. Not counting the percussion director/specialist, MISD schools all only have one head director and one assistant director. This leaves the assistant directors at the larger programs often teaching all of the non/sub non-varsity bands and stretched thin on other responsibilities they could be helping with.

Early predictions for area b,I  believe 6 bands make state at this comp so i will go based off that.

1.Keller (state)

2.Coppel (state)

3.Keller central (state)

4.Lake RIdge (state)

5.LD Bell (state)

6.Waxa (state)

7.TImber creek

8.Haltom

9.Duncanville

10.POSSIBLE lake highlands

Definitely could see top 6 switching around a lot with highland park and everyone being there. Doubt highland park will beat lake ridge since they didn't at preview of champions. With keller central beating Lake RIdge i believe they will do it again this competition. Keller and Coppel are locks, this is the most competitive area in 6a I would say. LD bell could definitely swap around, there band has always been very good all around but with more bands rising up in skill i'm not sure how they will do. Always haven't liked this area due to the bands in it, and also how many bands there is in the competition. Plus judging is all over the place in terms of UIL judging. I will be very happy to see my top 6 make state, as they all deserve it.

I'd be surprised to not see Southlake Carroll or Highland Park in the top 10.

That’s true completely forgot about Southlake Carroll. Highland might be over timber creek but definitely not over lake ridge.

I think Timber Creek has a great shot at state this year! they looked and sounded fantastic at HEB, and I think they can and really want to make it again this year! This would be my current predictions as of now based on the comps that have happened and last year. Normally the take 5 but I've heard there will be a good chance they take 6 so that's what my predictions are based on.

1st: Coppell

2nd: Keller

3rd: TC/Carrol- will probably have a good estimate where Carrol will be after this weekend and the following comps

4th: TC/Carrol

5th: Keller Central

6th: Waxahachie/Lake Ridge- again haven't seen Waxahachie yet but hopefully this weekend will help with where they stand here

7th:  Waxahachie/Lake Ridge

8th: L.D Bell

9th: Haltom

10th: Highland park/Duncanville- originally thought HP had a chance and they still do but after how POC went, this weekend at DFW will really show whether they can compete with the "big dogs", but i'm not as confident as I use to be.

God this area is so difficult.

Don’t count HP out. Once they get to area they are very solid.

It's still early, but here is a shot at this one.

1 - 2

Coppell & Keller

These two are interchangeable for 1st and 2nd.  No surprises here.  I do think that the gap between them and everyone else is wider than it ever has been.  These two are locks to advance, and quite frankly locks to make State Finals.

2-5

Southlake Carroll, Waxahachie, Timber Creek

The three other advancers from the last go-around are only getting better.  Waxahachie has a new design team, and still sounds amazing as always.  Timber Creek had a good showing at HEB, and despite not having the difficulty level of Coppell or Keller moves and plays well.  Carroll is headed to GN this year, and as the other returning state finalist is an advancer until they prove they aren't.

6-7

Haltom/LD Bell

Haltom sounds much improved over last year!  They have a challenging show that if they can grow into it will be competitive.  LD Bell once again has a great design and wonderful percussion.  It will depend on if their winds can match the excellence of the groups above them.

I’ll take a shot at this

1) Keller: can’t remember the last time they didn’t outright win (or place 2nd) this competition and I don’t see things changing this year.

2) Coppell: talk about spectacle. This show is a BIG and I really wouldn’t be surprised if they managed to overtake Keller this year.

3) Waxahachie: ever since moving up from 5a to 6a, they’ve settled into this area quite well. They seem to play and move better every year and I see them finishing comfortably in 3rd.

4-5) Timber Creek and Carroll: TC has one of their most ambitious shows to date and with Carroll building off the momentum from last year and planning for Grand Nationals, I can see these programs finishing in 4-5.

6) Duncanville: although they missed state for the first time in their history last year, this program still has a really good track record here and tends to over-perform peoples predictions so I wouldn’t be surprised if they snag this last spot (if they take 6 to state)

7-8 Keller Central and Bell: I actually hope I’m wrong about this cause I really want to see both these programs return to state. State these last few years without Bell feels so odd to me.

9-10 Haltom and Highland Park: I could be very wrong about these as I haven’t seen either programs shows yet so take these placements with a grain of salt. I do know Highland Park is a newcomer to this area. Waxahachie broke into the top 5 seamlessly when they moved up so maybe Highland Park will too however that’s easier said than done.

In the bubble for finals: Lake Ridge, Mansfield, Berkner, Richardson, and Bowie.

This would honestly be the best case scenario unfortunately this area has always sent 5 as there are quite a few bands that end up getting 2’s. I’m hoping for 6 this time around but even that’s pushing it.

This area is super competitive. Some of the groups(whomever they are) that don’t end up making it would have a good shot in different areas. But that’s competition for ya! It’s a privilege and a burden for these programs to compete here!

Tell me about it. I'm a Dville 2020 alumni and competing in this area was always incredibly stressful and nerveracking just because of how hard it is and how badly each of these groups want to succeed. Especially in 2018 when all chaos broke loose on this forum following the finals results. Good times
