Speaking of which what’s Duncanville up to? I’ve missed them.

Saw a video from mid September of the show. The show feels like an attempt at a BOA show (idk how else to put it) which is ironic cuz they don’t do BOA. It’s like an imitation Broken Arrow show. It’s dark, it’s edgy, the visual theme is ambiguous, and it’s also a mess. There’s actually a good amount of difficulty though. I don’t know how much they’ve cleaned but they got 9th at a local competition this weekend.

Welp I just stumbled upon the entire list. I was looking at Duncanville’s band calendar to see what competitions they’re going to this year and when I clicked on “Duncanville Invitational” it has the full list of bands in its description.

Here is the full list of bands going to Duncanville:

LD Bell High School

Midlothian Heritage High School

Lake Ridge High School

Keller High School

Keller Central High School

Timber Creek High School

Richardson High School

Pearce High School

Berkner High School

Chisholm Trail High School

Trinity High School

North Lamar High School

Waxahachie High School

Welp, I don’t think waiting is going to do anything when it comes to making these predictions. The only contest between now and then is birdville which only LD Bell is attending of my top 4.

1. Keller

2. LD Bell

3-4. Timber Creek or Waxahachie,

these two are the ones that are giving me the most trouble.
With what I saw of  Waxahachie’s show at BOA dfw, it leans toward that UIL style which I feel can do really well here at this contest. They’re overall well balanced between music and visuals, but I feel there are just weird patches of their show where the music or drill isn’t as clean as some of the other spots.
With Timber Creek, they just need to really focus on cleaning their visuals. Everything else is in a place that it can do really well but if they can just get those visuals to a higher standard then I feel they could be placing pretty high.

I don’t know much past that for the other bands attending, however I have heard good word about Lake Ridge and Pearce. So if I had to give a 5-6 then I’d give it to them (In order respectively) but I haven’t seen their shows so take that with a grain of salt.

I saw the Duncanville show last weekend. I agree with this description. The show could be great - lots of potential, and I thought it was visually interesting. It's just not quite there yet. I felt like they had just learned all of it and was performing it for the first time. But if they really dig in and get it tight, it could go a long way.

Summit isn't attending because they're now 5A and it's area finals on the same day. I'm not sure about the other schools. Were they 6A in 2019 and are now 5A?

Lake Highlands, Permian and Boyd are still 6A. My guess is LH cancelled when Region 20's UIL contest got postponed a week by weather - it's now today. Permian probably decided against the long trip. Can't say why Boyd cancelled.

everyone else

What I'm interested in is who has put it into gear after earlier comps. If I was copy pasting results from Dallas my ranking would be Keller, Bell, Timber Creek, and Waxahachie. I'd love to see Waxahachie come out much improved and take a top 3 spot, I always loved their shows when I was competing around here. OR will Bell or Timber clean enough to upset Keller, who is the probable first? Super exciting to see who dug down in the last couple weeks.
