Just added another San Antonio NISD band to the mix!  William J. Brennan HS will be making their BOA debut at McAllen this fall. They also have plans to attend the Midland regional. Best wishes to the Brennan HS Band!

Sad to see that Brennan will not be doing BOA contests this fall after all.

This is lowkey the most stacked BOA McAllen so far. Maybe not as many big names as 2017/2018/2019, but pretty much every band in attendance has improved exponentially since 2019.

Definitely agree. Alexander just had a performance where they performed a sneak peek of their show. It’s already sounding amazing and their opener really is an attention grabber. This is definitely going to be an amazing year for all Texas bands, maybe even National. The dead space that COVID brought also attracted numerous opportunities of development in all Music programs.

Everyone ready for this tomorrow?!  I hope the new streaming service can handle the load!  Remember there are three regionals happening, including one in Dayton. This will be our first chance to get a glimpse of Carmel HS!  (They perform in prelims at 10:15 central).

Can not wait to see John B Alexander’s show and I’m so excited to see bands from San Antonio, Georgetown, Pflugerville and Grapevine making the trip down!

I've been away for a while and haven't been keeping up as much, but is FloMarching not going to be streaming any BOA contests this year? Who's this new streaming service you speak of?

BOX5 Media is the new partner with BOA for streaming contests this season. From what I've heard from other users, BOX5 is more consistent than FloMarching with their streams, so there may be less freezing and better audio quality now. Also, unlike FloMarching where you had to buy their FloSports service for an entire year to watch events, you can choose to buy individual events to watch. I think it's $25 for prelims and finals and $15 if you only want one or the other.

First Block Thoughts:

Gladys Porter performed first in the day but you could not tell. The energy coming off of their performance was on par.

Harlingen may be a finalist contender. An impressive trombone solo starts them off with a piccolo-flute duet in the ballad.

Rio Grande City also performed an emotional and expressive show and may also be a finalist contender.

You could tell Robert Vela missed performing and did not disappoint.

The real standout of this block was Pioneer. A beautiful opening hit set the tone for what was to come in the rest of the show. Pioneer may not only be a finalist contender, but has the possibility to go on to win their class depending on how the rest of the day goes.

First Block Finalist Contenders:

1-Pioneer

2-Rio Grande City

3- Harlingen
