Honestly, I hope to see some underdogs rise up and advance.  There are so many great overlooked bands that don't get near the love they should, and I want to see them surprise everyone and shine!!

Underdogs as in bands who make State but just can't get over the hump into State Finals OR bands who can't get over the hump into State? I have a few in mind but will try not to be biased.

I disagree.  Area B still has several amazing bands, they just don't necessarily have the financial backing that the ones who moved to Area C have, and have traditionally been overshadowed and overlooked in the past.  Don't count Area B out...

At this point pretty much anyone not Celina, Panther Creek, Aubrey, China Spring, or Krum.  Not knocking those bands, because I have seen some of their shows, and they are good, but there are a lot of good bands with a lot of talent that barely get any recognition.

Krum and Aubrey? Are they really contenders? I haven’t been paying much attention, but the last few years I thought that they’ve been a tier below.

I was wondering that as well. I would maybe consider them possible dark horses but not definite contenders.

There just seems to be a lot of chatter on another forum about Krum and Aubrey having amazing shows this year and moving on to finals and possibly going on to state this year.

There are some shows from some of the favorited front runners that I feel like are technically clean and have good musicality, but I am a little underwhelmed and think the shows are just kind of meh, but not in a bad way.  There are also shows that I feel are more exciting and dynamic that seem to be a bit overlooked...

I agree the top contenders definitely have boring shows compared to other bands. However, these aren't being overlooked. Judges have shown that they will reward a clean band over a fun band. That's why the top contenders are the top contenders. They are clean on the field visually and musically.

They've been on the radar for quite some time now. Really good program. How big are they? I wonder when they'll move up to 5A.

They’re almost 5A right now and their band is pretty large for a 4A I think…I’d expect a move up in the next cycle unless the upper boundary for 4A changes.

I normally would but the judging today was not it. I do not agree with placements especially in area b and c. It seems like judges simply picked the bands that were the loudest and later in the day. That's not how you judge a contest. Hopefully judges at state are competent.

Anyhow, I do feel like breaking top 10 this year will be extremely hard. These bands are getting better and better every year. Good luck to everyone especially those new comers like Aubrey and Farmersville.

So, do you think the bands in B & C don't deserve to go to State?

I think what he means is that the judges didn't do their job right. With zero disrespect to the bands that performed, they were all fantastic, in area c sulphur definitely took the win in my books. Bridge city was loud and sounded phenomenal, but other bands were out there that marched better and played to the same degree yet got placed lower. Panther Creek was about as clean as a 4a band could get and they executed their show absolutely beautifully, and the judges rewarded China Spring for being louder...

I'm not at all saying the bands that qualified didn't deserve to go to state, but the judges didn't do a lot of the bands justice. It seems yet again, volume and size prevail in the judges eyes.
