I see predictions and the top 6 all make sense, but I have seen some that have BC and CH in the finals but I don't see Midlo. I have seen both shows and they beat both at area and beat CH in prelims of the Mansfield POC and was barely behind BC at BOA Waco. I know its a very close race but what are yalls thoughts?

I see the reasoning for this to be 2 fold...1. History of what the trend has been in the past few years (for those that haven't seen all the bands this year) and 2. Some seasoned programs will have been through this rodeo before, making them have a slight advantage.

I have been around the marching scene for a while now (went to a 5A school), but when I make my 4A predictions, I am basing on results from the year as well as the trends from the past...Such as systematically, North Lamar has a long standing trend of success, so even if there was an upcoming band that could easily dethrone them, I wouldn't be as aware of it until the actual day of the contest comes. Similarly, if memory serves me correctly, different competitions have had different outcomes between the three BC, Midlothian, and CH (despite some being BOA style). So some of these instances I predict looking at the big picture. Even prelims and finals area Area F had them ranked in a different order.

Also, when I mention program history, some people have honestly just been to state more, so they have experience in how to handle the whole process. This is the same reason you will see Argyle placed above McKinney North in most peoples predictions (although McKinney North beat them in both prelims and finals at Area B.). This is because they dominated in 4A SMBC before being moved up to 5A, so they have a ton of experience in that regard.

All 3 of these Area F bands are super talented, and honestly, as I have said in another thread, will probably come down to the runs and the judges preferences.

Predictions are hard, and almost never fully accurate, which is why nobody has correctly predicted March Madness either :P

While no decision from UIL State office been made, Sharyland and Pioneer high school are currently under investigation due to confirmed UIL violations. While only a reprimand was given by the Region 15 committee, this issue has been elevated to the state level by the principal of Gladys Porter Early College High School.

There have been years that I thought Rouse might beat Cedar Park.

This isn't one of those years.

While I think there is an ok possibility for them to beat CP, I think CP might take it again. But it'll be close for sure!

Like pretty much everywhere else in the state, there are decent rain chances in San Antonio on Monday and Tuesday.  While the performance area is sheltered within the Alamodome, all props and equipment are unloaded in the open air parking lot, and the front ensemble warm up areas are also outside in the elements.  That means all of the synth carts and other electronics will be at least somewhat exposed.

I really hope the rain holds off and doesn't affect the equipment.

Exactly what I was thinking, this would be a logistical nightmare…

I think Midlo has a strong shot at finals, but they have a very unfortunate prelims time. Anything is possible with a super strong performance, but unfortunately this is the type of competition where even for super strong programs, having a super early performance time has an impact simply bc of how many bands are competing in prelims and how deep this contest is with talent, but I’d be so happy to see them in finals.

Hebron laughs at this comment with their 9:15 performance time this saturday.

Saw this this morning, hope everything gets cleared up and the two bands didn't violate any rules. Would suck if the kids got penalized for a choice made by the directors...

i did some research and it seems they did violate some rules, UIL has released that they will be reprimanded but have not said what that will entail.

Any pinions On A&m consolidated and Cs? I think the csisd bands could make a run for a finals spot this year, especially consolidated

I'm not too sure, I have not seen their show this year, but I bet it could be possible! we'll have to see though for sure!

not entirely related but still somewhat related to smbc, a few years back I believe dallas highland park was dominating the 5a smbc scene and now it seems like they're struggling even just in their own area. does anyone know anything about this?
