braddddd Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 not a state fact but boa san antonio Ronald Reagan is the only band to be in finals at every BOA San Antonio this century (the last time they weren't was in 1999). They are also the only band to make finals at every BOA San Antonio since it became a super regional. (It became a super regional in 2003). lost and LeanderMomma 2 Quote

Especially 2003-2006. I'd argue they shouldn't have made finals in 2007. 2008 and 2009 aren't as fun to watch, but 2007 just isn't performed well. Regardless, San Antonio doesn't have a lot of top performing bands. MacArthur, Marshall, Churchill, and CTJ each had a decade or so of being on top, but Reagan has never been too far behind. It's kinda a point of pride for any San Antonian. Quote

Reagan was 0.2 from falling out in 2009. A rough showing in the visual for Coppell kept them in finals narrowly. Quote
FEDude Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Not a stat, but what is the "cleanest" show to ever win state. I think the contenders are: -Spring 1992 -Marcus 2012 (maybe some musical issues, but visually it is just flawless) -Hebron 2021 Not saying those are my favorites (except for Spring 1992 since I always come back to that one). But I seriously can't spot any errors when I watch those. Maybe someone with more musical knowledge can say which are the cleanest, and even go back to the score sheets. Quote

I think that was their first year with Levi Chavis. I think they had some genuinely great shows under his watch (2010, 2011, 2014). I forget if 2015 was under him or Morrison, but it also absolutely gorgeous. I'll never understand why Reagan can't hold onto a band director for more than a few years. At least 2 ex Reagan directors are now real estate agents, so it's not like they're running off to another band. I guess I was also spoiled and had a director that had been there 11 years before moving. Quote

Among all the 6a (or formerly 5a) state champs during my time in band and afterward, it’s easily Marcus 2012. They may have had some slight blips at BOA, although I don’t remember any and it didn’t hold them back at all. They won that contest by 2.85 over second, which is the widest margin of victory in the history of that contest as far as I know. State finals they were absolutely unconscious tho. Quote

I think what sets this show apart is how exposed each section is musically. That's why we can call out any musical issues. The English horn/oboe duet just melts my heart every time. Quote
