  1. It looks like their score dropped over 2 points between prelims and finals too... Of course, it's hard to compare scores when the judging changes and everything, but this didn't happen for any other band in finals. I thought their finals run was just as good, if not better than their prelims run, but what do I know? šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
  2. So happy for Hebron! Their show was STUNNING and this win is well-deserved. I though CTJ would take second, as their show was super entertaining and fun as well, but Vandegrift is really good, so I canā€™t complain too much. Woodlands was so entertaining, and every minute felt like they really believed in their show. Overall, what a wonderful competition!
  3. I donā€™t know how else to clarify. I think that the BOA judges are amazing for doing what they do, and it wasnā€™t my intention to say that they are ā€œreservingā€ certain scores. Iā€™m echoing a point that Iā€™ve heard about all competitions, not just BOA and not just marching band, in an attempt to answer a question about why people were worried about VRā€™s performance slot. Iā€™m sorry that it came off to you as me doubting the legitimacy of the judging. šŸ˜•
  4. I never said the judges were villains? When I said Vista Ridge got screwed here, I meant that their prelims draw was also bad not because of scoring, but because performing early in the morning is hard for anyone (especially when bands have football games the night before). Also, Iā€™m not entirely sure of the specifics, but the top half/bottom half performance order rule exists because someone DID get screwed over once (it might have been at GN). I donā€™t think anyone really considers the judges villains hereā€¦ itā€™s simply a fact that itā€™s more difficult to score bands that are close in score that are far apart in performance order (as opposed to when theyā€™re back to back). Sorry if my comment came off as promoting a victim culture or portraying the judges badly! All of the bands in finals are wonderful and deserve to be where they are, in the Alamodome!
  5. Vista Ridge's spot is unfortunate because judges tend to give lower scores to earlier bands to give themselves room for higher scores later. Hebron's spot is unfortunate because they won prelims and it would be cool if they went closer to last. Personally, I don't think this will affect Hebron much since they were clearly above everyone else in prelims (imo). I really do think Vista Ridge got screwed here, having an early (morning for prelims) slot in both prelims and finals, but hopefully they can give an outstanding performance here.
