The directors wanted to give the band family another off weekend since the calendar is otherwise so intense.

After my daughter graduated in 2020, and a year of COVID, my son will be a Freshman at Rouse this year. Not to jinx anything, but we already made our hotel reservations for State. Looking forward to an awesome year. Rouse HS show reveal and mini camp at the end of the school year has everyone fired up. Its gonna be a good year!

There are some pretty awesome 5A bands from other districts on the rise as well. It will be an exciting UIL season for sure!

True - but it could just be an issue of costs for an additional trip and/or stay in San Antonio in a year when they are planning a trip to Indy. also could be a matter of driving VS flying to Indy, or doing 7 performances in 8 days - sorry to see FloMo not go to San Antonio but excited to see them in Indy

So incredibly proud of the Rouse HS guard. Their director called them "The little team that could".

Congrats to all the Texas teams that made the finals!!

And here are the twelve TX groups that received Superior ratings. Supposedly the standards for superior ratings for semis performances were raised "to mirror historic thresholds for Finals Progression." This partly explains why some groups that have received these ratings previously did not receive them after semis.
    Coppell HS JV2
    Eastlake HS
    Hebron HS
    McCullough JH Varsity
    Pearland HS
    Prosper HS A
    Rouse HS
    Seven Lakes HS JV
    Spring ISD
    The Woodlands HS
    Vista Ridge HS
    Westwood HS

Congrats again to all participating groups!

I may be a little bias being from Leander ISD but I would expect Vista Ridge to both make finals and finish very high. Why would we expect anything less from a band from arguably the best marching band school district in the great state of Texas.

Wow.  It's like making Finals at Grand Nats might be as tough as making Finals at San Antonio!

I agree and was not discounting Vandy, Reagan or any other program this coming year, just that Vista and CTJ are going to see each other a number of time (more than usual) with TMC and State before matching up in Indy. it should be great year for all programs and I wish them all the best

It does, I agree. Idk, I have mixed emotions about it. A "state winning" UIL show may or may not do well at GN, and the smaller schools like CP, Rouse, and Glen don't have near the fund raising base as Vista or Vandy. A trip to GN is an additional $400,000 to the budget. I think it would be really cool if LISD sent everyone to GN one year. win the whole thing and sweep the classes.

Leander getting bumped down to 5A really puts pressure on Cedar Park, Rouse, and Glen. All of which made the Finals (Cedar park #1, and Rouse #4). I think It's very possible we see a repeat of 2015 with a Leander ISD sweep in 5A.

I understand the bitterness - our program was the only high school of the 7 in the district to compete - appreciate your kind words about the program. I remain grateful that the directors gave the kids an avenue to normal - and totally agree that there are many other programs that in a normal year on the field could and would have competed well. We are grateful for those that did and look forward to being on the field with them all in 2021.
our shirts are a way to "embrace the suck" - as I learned many years ago
    stay safe -

There is a reason CTJ won. They were the best band out there this year. I think the bitterness comes from those of us that know our schools would have had a shot at the title as well under different circumstances. But nobody can take anything away from CTJ. There is a reason they are one of the best band in the country, Year after year they absolutely bring it every time they step on the field.
    Those shirts crack me up!!

Do I think Leander ISD made the right decision and did not compete this year? I think so. Do I wish we could have seen VRHS defend their title? Of course I do. I also feel for all of those seniors that did not get to do all of the things they should have done. My daughter was a senior at Rouse last year (in Color Guard) when all of this started and their winter guard season was canceled.

Glad you got your bright spot and congrats to CTJ.
I think this year has sucked like no other.  And for my kid it is just a horrible senior year.
    Pardon my bitterness.

I hate that Marcus pulled that time slot. Based on the video I saw, this should have been theirs to lose. I think they'll still medal, but won't be the one they probably should take home.

hi! we did end up changing course on the show - it is prop free (ok we have a stage or two...) which has been cool to have a clean field that allows everyone to space out. we are using the 2010 show drill for pre show and opener, same music updated solos for our small ensembles and seniors so they have some great stuff. then blended together music from 2010 and 2014 Chameleon shows for the ballad and closer. the “chameleon” twirler makes an appearance 🥰 - the show has enough meat to be challenging for the kids and train for the future, and is music they love doing since it’s shows they’ve grown up watching. “greatest hits” type vibe. so far it has been therapeutic for all of us to put together and we are really enjoying doing it, while doing everything possible to keep them safe.
we are all looking forward to possible performances becoming a reality whatever they look like this year. thank you for your kind words - we won’t disappoint!

Based on initial entry commitment, State a Contest should run 18-24 bands. Several of the DFW areas have 8-10 6A and most of the others have enough to continue the event. Of the top 25 groups from 2018, I count fifteen who are planning or have indicated they want to participate at this point. There was a time for some of these events when it used to be one or two bands per area ... 7 or 14 total, much smaller.
Happy to see UIL will continue to run events for those who are willing and able. If we become unable to for some reason, we’ll be cheering on those who are.
