  1. I wish we could see a push to turn BOA SA into something like "Grand Nats South" instead of a super regional given how big the turnout usually is and how heavy the competition is. Plus, so many good bands miss out on Nats because it's hard for them to afford or put the time aside.
  2. To be quite honest I haven't followed up much on them since...oof maybe...2019? So I wouldn't doubt they're doing well still. I know they kind of gained their footing again around 2015, assuming that's when their new director following Mr. Nelson took over. They were a pretty big competitor in the valley pre-pioneer. As for the rocky part, I know the program went through a rough patch following the opening of Pioneer HS, it cut the members and the diffusion of middle schoolers also affected that. Mr. Nelson had also lost a lot of his passion at that point as well, plus there was a lot of negative politics that followed the band due to him. Things seem to have gotten better once he retires and they got their new director whose full name I can't remember besides Mr. P. Although I do wonder if Sanchez, Rocha, and Van Epps are still there πŸ€” Either way, go rattlers πŸ˜›
  3. Oh yay it's so nice to see valley bands place well against Central/North Texas bands! I wish things didn't get so rocky for Sharyland in the last couple years, I would've loved to see them be alongside Pioneer.
  4. First of all...$300?! Secondly, my partner sometimes like to do the half head turn like 😐 and look back at them when they're talking and then just turn back to watching the show. It usually ends up with them being quieter lmao.
  5. I think we're at a misunderstanding. You had actually commented on my post back in September asking me to call out which parents were making negative remarks on another program, so I'd believe we're on the same page that it's not something that should be done in the stands, speaking negatively of others just to be clear. The other person wasn't simply stating they have mics, that would be fair commentary. They're pointing out that it's "weird to credit" Rouse for volume if they're mic'd. While pointing out mic use is fine, this is now the second occurrence I've seen where Vista aligned individuals speak negatively on Rouse specifically by pointing out their mic use, which again, a lot of bands use. Even saying their success in volume is tied with money. Even without mics, Rouse has some serious volume, and it's not like the judges can't tell the difference.
  6. Oh, wow. I posted back in September during BOA Austin about audience members (who I didn't want to say were Vista parents/volunteers at the time) talking negatively about Rouse and their mic use. Now it's the end of the season and it seems like nothing's changed, a vista tied individual talking negatively about Rouse volume. I wouldn't be shocked if you were the person I was sitting near at that time, I can only hope it's not a trend in the parents, your complaints are the same lmfao. A lot of programs mic, I'm not sure why Vista people have a reoccurring issue with Rouse's use of them.
  7. I'm partial to a subway surfers gameplay in the bottom of the stream but I think keys would work as well
  8. I'm so sad I only say woodlands live once this season :') they're an absolute favorite of mine and they're so gooooood ugh the energy of this run felt so electric
  9. Oh!! Okay, yeah, that makes total sense. Haha I appreciate it! I completely see it now. Thank you
  10. Could anyone explain the connection to the dots and all the Mary Poppins-esque stuff with L.D Bell? I'm not entirely sure I understand what's being conveyed.
  11. Agreed. The concept was interesting but there was a lot of opportunities that just weren't taken, imo.
  12. That tuba/trombone solo is absolutely insane. The talent is crazy and he plays so effortlessly on both instruments. It's been my favorite soloist to watch this season.
  13. It definitely sucks that's it's hard to rewatch shows. I think the issue is that some bands and Box5 are quick to give you a copystrike on their videos. My partner regularly records and will post but due to copystrike stuff being issued by a band they're gonna have to hold off on it lol.
  14. Box5s camera work is genuinely so bad πŸ’€ As someone who's watching live and peeking at the screen here and there it's absolutely crazy how much they just don't film and instead focus on some random spot in the field.
  15. At this point "CTJ should've been added" is just cope. Waxahachie performed well, that's why they got ranked at 14th. Even if waxahachie DIDN'T go over we probably wouldn't have seen CTJ in finals as the results show. The time accomodation is such a trivial thing in regards to who should and shouldn't be in finals. It's alright to be upset CTJ didn't make finals but this whole "let's add an extra spot and waxahachie should've been reprimanded" is so... unnecessary.. Just to add- the basis of "well they made finals every year since 2010" doesn't really hold weight as we've seen this year. Cedar Ridge was a bronze medalist and couldn't even make it to state. Reputation doesn't mean things are owed.
  16. It's probably been asked a hundred times but- will it be the same set of judges for finals? I'm curious how it'll affect finals results πŸ˜— some of these are some crazy placements
  17. It was mentioned by a waxahachie parent/member that UIL supposedly allows for a margin of error within 2-3 seconds. Supposedly, waxahachie was just under those two seconds, allowing for them to remain in the competition. If that's true, it's probably an unspoken clause that UIL doesn't mention to avoid abuse or it's a case by case basis dependent on how the higher ups are feeling that day. I'm not sure where you're idea of "adding CTJ to finals as 15th place" is coming from. Adding a finalist spot and keeping a band who went 2 seconds over are very different magnitudes. Waxahachie performed well, many saw them as a finalist lock. Respectfully, and or course my own opinion, CTJ not making finals isn't very shocking. Their show and their performance is good but this entire season it felt like a strong performance from another band could knock them over, and that's what seemed to happen. Plus, UIL doesn't seem to favor their show style, we can see this from previous year results. They cut a minute or so away to preshow because the show is made for a BOA circuit.
  18. Regan and Round Rock carrying the weight of Area D on their shoulders this year πŸ’€ It's a shame CTJ was 1st out, and it feels like Westwood was put in a big crunch (St. Louis > State) with little payout. This really is an interesting year for state πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« I wonder what things are going to look like for BOA now that some bands won't be attending.
  19. I believe it was confirmed earlier in the day that they made within the "margin of error" by a millisecond to not be DQd
  20. Agreed. I can't recall what performance it was, maybe even a game but- their show looks a lot nicer without the large cages. It makes everything feel more free and open and the visuals a lot better. Westwood is growing as a program but their visuals seems to hold back their growth.
  21. To have your season ended by just going over 3 seconds is definitely a shot in the heart. It's very unfair to DQ a band over an incredibly minor overtime. I feel for the students, how terrible.
