Who knows really. It may change because it's not like it was published intentionally.

Really loved Leander ISD's shows this year. Of course, I love them every year. Those schools have always been so supportive of RRISD schools and vice versa. I remember when I first moved to NW Austin and saw the Cedar Park band, I was so blown away! Congrats again. Can't wait for Glenn to get up there and have ALL of LISD blowing everyone away.

I think I heard someone WEST may be going next year. But then again I could have been dreaming that.

Couldn't post immediately because the forum got overloaded but dang I feel so bad for Cedar Ridge and Westwood, I did not expect them to be out...And I feel even worse for Bowie because now they probably don't have a chance at Grand Nats finals.
Very interested to see those prelims recap and see where everyone else ended up.
But super happy for Leander and LD Bell! Great way to make a statement after not being in finals last year.

It's so weird seeing the prop argument from this perspective considering Marcus (the band that "should wipe the floor") in its heyday (late 2000's, early 2010's) was notoriously known for their extravagant props, which often sparked debate on here along the lines of "Marcus is only winning because of their huge prop budget" (this was not the case). Seeing the opposite argument of "Vandy shouldn't win" due to lack of props is bizarre to say the least.

You really can't compare UIL judging to BOA judging. It's really different. Dripping Springs has been a UIL powerhouse for UIL and has only recently made the change to be a more BOA focused band.

Vandegrift's music was one of the hardest books on the field this year.  Period.
Their dance team exhibits the same level of skill in dance that the best guards exhibit in equipment work.  It's different, not lesser than.
Props have exactly no place on any rubric in any competitive circuit.  If a group chooses to use props and they're integrated into the design in an interactive manner, then that can contribute to design/ge points.  Otherwise, they don't add or detract.  Especially at UIL.

As a contest announcer, BLAME THE BAND!
We follow the script. The script has us start the announcement 45 seconds before their 8 minute timer starts. If the band starts playing, we still have to talk at 8 minutes before.

I'll also add that in years past, they have been lax at the state competitions when it comes to time.

It isn't helpful to the kids for us fans to say that anyone was ROBBED. We aren't the judges. We also don't know what happened behind the scenes. For all we know, the clock at the dome was off and all the fodder about Waxahatchie being DQ'ed was just that..fodder.

Congrats to all those bands who made finals. Way to go CTJ, Westwood with very little rest, and Dripping Springs for repping Area D so very well by being the next bands out. I have no doubt that they will work even harder this week to be ready for BOA on Friday.

And knowing this, you STILL are on the soapbox regarding CTJ getting robbed and Wax getting disqualified?

I'm going to ask all of you all something. How many of you have volunteered to work in the press box to work the clock or work as an announcer? It's all done by parents and volunteers. No one gets paid to do it. Maybe the announcers get to do it at the state level but that's it. Knowing that, the level of pressure to do this correctly for the timekeepers is high. I remember the first year I worked as an announcer for a competition, the timekeepers would start the clock as soon as the band started. We had to correct them on more than one occasion and remind them they get that time regardless. We had to restart the clock for a band at another competition. Why? Because people make mistakes all the time because they are human.

No one is owed a spot in finals. There is a long history of leniency at state for issues. New Diana’s drum major freezing up and the director having to go on the field and start the band. Ronald Reagan several years ago with electronics issues that started 3 minutes late. A balloon being accidentally released during prelims at the Alamodome years ago. I believe the directors received a warning in those cases.

As good as CTJ was, they didn’t make the top 14. End of story.
