  1. I heard a big ole update about a band who I never thought would be going to GrandNats. I promised my friend I'd keep it under wraps. When announced, I think its gonna take a bunch of people by surprise.
  2. I think having 9 judges would work. I also think that for area, you can't have the same judges for prelims and finals.
  3. How many bands advance out of prelims to finals? Trying to determine if I should bother coming in from Austin on Saturday morning since our band performs on Friday.
  4. Reagan was amazing. What a beautifully executed show with very little in the way of crap on the field. That is the standard that every band should live up to. Did the judges just change what they were judging? Meaning the music judges switched to marching?
  5. The only problem with this list is that you have two regions in the DFW area. So sure, you're gonna have more schools from that area at state because they have more chances to get there
  6. As a former band member myself, and watching marching competitions as a kid, its fascinating to see the changes you have gotten over the years. I miss traditional marching where it was marching and not a show, per se. Heck, my high school didn't get a color guard until the mid 90's. However, I think I like the UIL format better than BOA. BOA seems to aware the more elaborate BIG shows where UIL is judged against a standard, giving the poor little guy a chance. I have to think that guys that do traditional marching shows like some of the schools in East Texas feel that UIL is their big show to achieve excellence. At any rate, as a spectator and a mom of a band kid, this is such a wild ride!
