The dance team is the one thing that has always bugged me about Vandy. They have such a large dance team, and their dancing is beautiful, but I miss the rifle lines and traditional color guard. I'm sure they will still put out something amazing... it'll be neat to see how it translates to Nationals.

Have you guys not been required to have them in past years? That surprises me. Do your kids get PE credit for marching band? Our kids aren’t allowed to attend summer band camp until they have a current physical for the year on file.

Nope. the jr high just sticks to the Houston area competitions- and I’ve got too many other things with other kids still at home to be able to go just for “me” to enjoy. some day I’ll be able to catch the competitions just for fun and not just as a parent. ☺️

I just left the TCGC Morton ranch competition. Daughter is in the cadet class with her jr high group. I would have loved to stay and watch the higher classes throughout the day- but other kids have other activities. I feel like I’m just starting to feel like I know a little more about marching band- and now I’m needing to learn more about color guard and scoring and stuff. Does anyone have suggestions of where/how/what to read/watch to learn more? I was surprised to see Highschool groups down in the cadet class with the jr high groups.

That’s awesome! I’ve got family and friends who’s kids go there. I’ll have to see if any are traveling with the band.

That would be so fun to go watch! Too bad it's a little far for our schedule to make it. Next week my Jr high color guarder gets to do her first competition this year. Not quite where the high school kids are, but it's fun to see them as they start the skills. She is doing rifle this year for the first time.

I don't know about the whole area we are in, but TWHS has 7 that made it to state.
