  1. We like the football too! I’ll admit in don’t follow the rankings for the Highschool team very closely. We’ve had some losses, but also had lots of wins, so it just depends on how well we play out the season. I follow the college football more than the Highschool, but we definitely enjoy the Hs games as well as the halftime!

  3. “Really need to see it from higher up.” yes, and yes. ? Editing to add: kidding aside, Cabaret is mostly thought of as a more seedy night club entertainment… but it can also just be entertainment…. As a parent I’m glad it’s themed as bright and cheerful and happy entertainment- with no worries of inappropriate costuming for these teenagers.
  4. Hi!
The LoneStar preview competition The Woodlands Band hosts on October 9th is wondering if you would like to attend as a representative of Txbands, and if we can give you a ticket to the event.

We have a great line up of bands this year, and would love to give these bands some exposure through the TXBands website.  We know we are competing for attention from the DFW Boa that day, but thought we would see if you are available and would like to come.

Please let me know if you would be interested.

  5. Woah! So glad you are on the road to recovery!!! I know you have the best nurse ever taking good care of you. Best wishes!!
  6. I think after the second semi-finals.. i heard they are taking the top ones of them all combined.
  7. I only have the last 4 seasons of knowledge since that’s when my daughter became involved with guard at mccullough, but in the 2018-19 school year is when they started having a color guard pe class, instead of it just being an after school club. When it was an after school club they averaged around 60 girls trying out the year my daughter tried out for 7th grade. The next year when they opened it up for a pe credit- I think they had around 75 girls try out. The following years have had increasingly more- this last year I think it was over 100 that tried out. This year is the first year they’ve had three groups- varsity, Jv, and spin club. I think varsity and Jv have the pe class and spin club is just after school- but I’m not positive. A Twhs guard alumni from 2018 is heavily involved with the mccullough program and helps teach skills and I believe was given the opportunity to direct the spin club. (Twhs readers... speak up if I’m wrong! Lol!) I do believe the big jump in skill level came from having that pe class. The girls went from having two 90 min after school practices a week- to having 3+ hours of class time (a/b alternating days schedule) in addition to after school practices. Most of the class time is just the faculty teacher/coach (Ms Danney- who has gotten married and I don’t know her new married name) who has a great dance background and I think works a lot with the girls on the dance and movement choreography and I think Ms Robbins works with her on what to teach during class time... Ms Robbins attends and runs their after school practices twice a week. Between the Highschool guards and mccullough she is with the Hs classes everyday and every afternoon has a practice with one group or another. (At 3 different locations through the week). She is amazing keeping it all straight!
  8. Mccullough jr high is the feeder school for The Woodlands Highschool. They have a wonderful teacher (she teaches math the rest of the day) that teaches them during their class time who has a great dance background and works with them on choreography a lot. The Twhs guard director - Ms Robbins goes in and directs their practices and designed the Jv and varsity group programs. Just this last week Ms Robbins had a directors spotlight done on her on the tcgc Facebook/Instagram. The program has been gradually building the last few years as they were able to get a class approved for a pe credit at the school. We had the same jaw dropping reaction when we saw them and their skills in person for the first time this year.
  9. I’ve enjoyed getting to watch the wgi shows on the weekends. Normally chaperoning I only get to watch our show- so it’s great to see so many shows each weekend on Flo. Miss the in person wgi events, but am glad we get a small version of in person with the tcgc local circuit.
  10. This was just posted on our band's facebook page- but it is important for all of texas. As always... read the bill and decide for yourself, but I do believe this could have detrimental effects down the line with funding to the fine arts programs. Parents, Teachers & Supporters of Fine Arts in Texas!! **This is an URGENT CALL TO ACTION** We have learned that the Texas State legislature will be voting on BILL HB434 **tomorrow (Tuesday)** which can effectively remove the requirement for schools to require a Fine Arts credit for graduation. This would be catastrophic for fine arts programs in CISD and across the state of Texas. Urgent! We need all parents, teachers, and supporters of Fine Arts to email and/or call to voice their opinions ASAP since the legislative session begins Tuesday. Bill HB 434 would effectively not make a Fine Art credit a requirement for HS graduation (by alllowing substitutions). Removing this requirement insinuates further issues for support in terms of funding, staffing, everything... Every student should have the opportunity to benefit from a fine arts course! Please help us by communicating with your legislators about why this is a bad idea. If you use the link below, there is already a pre written email to send. It takes less than a minute. The video linked below is a call-to-action for parents, boosters, etc. SEND AN EMAIL (pre-written): https://oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/.../10950 Call-to-action: https://drive.google.com/.../1QTcGlt9pLf2cKQrZ.../view... 11. Houston Area Band Directors! We are hoping to receive some feedback for Lone Star Preview this Fall. If you could take a moment of your time to let us know your thoughts in possibly participating, we’d greatly appreciate it! Lone Star Preview 2021 Date: October 9th** Location: Woodforest Stadium SAFETY PROTOCOLS The COVID-19 pandemic has been an evolving event, and it is sure to evolve more over the coming months. We will put a clear and effective plan in place to help keep students, parents, volunteers and staff safe and healthy once we have more details about what will be necessary coming out of the Summer and getting into the Fall. Our directors, booster club and fine arts administration will reference CDC, state and county guidelines, along with guidance and instruction from Conroe ISD. An agreed upon list of specific mitigations, protocols, limitations, etc will be communicated to participating directors, as well as included on our LSP website, when that information is ready to share. **Please note that by indicating you are interested, this is not a commitment to do so. Thank you for your time! **REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3RD @ 8AM Interested in participating? Fill out this survey: https://www.cognitoforms.com/TWHSBand1/LoneStarPreview2021Survey
  12. I know this is mostly “preaching to the choir” here since most all parents that have found this forum already are aware of the benefits of band and our kids and their learning. But I came across this article, and I thought it was great and shows even more benefits of marching band that aren’t traditionally pointed out https://hechingerreport.org/opinion-band-offers-a-haven-for-the-student-who-marches-to-the-beat-of-a-different-drummer/?fbclid=IwAR0Bm5hH8k5UtO0mtgQmpigWoh_2oi4UW2OJdOb_ag0F0RxIF3WfhYo2MgM
  13. All I can see is that results won’t be released till Tuesday the 21st. No news from our band yet.
  14. No kidding! Our band parent text thread is blowing up with people trying to match up and get tickets... those that bought the “pods” and those that couldn’t get them. ?
  15. Possibly? Not sure though. But the pit only has 5/6 kids in it... so that stands out to me vs the larger pit I’m used to seeing. It’s so hard to figure out how many they have short of counting... and it just feel’s smaller than last year.
  16. I thought oak ridge was great- but looks significantly smaller than they’ve been in the past few years. Since I haven’t seen anyone other than our area I can’t even begin to guess where they might rank. They still have a great sound and their color guard complements the show a lot.
  17. Twhs will do a one day trip. Those whose parents can drive them out will go with parents. Busses will be taken, with smaller numbers of students and masks worn for those that need busses. For area we averaged 10 kids per school bus. 8 busses- the rest went with parents. Honestly the fact that it’s the first day of finals and will cause them to have to take them late - and study and take finals the next day- might be causing more headaches for some parents/kids than the transportation to get out there.
  18. Area f has all advance ticket sales- none at the gate. I think each band was slotted 350 tickets... so 350x4- 1400 as the max I guess?
  19. I'm sorry it's taken me this long to reply to this. I understand your frustration as a parent, wanting to find the best possible solution to allow her to still participate in something she loves so much. I wonder if there might be some way for her to help with the band/color guard as some sort of student assistant, that allows her still to have the interaction and being part of the program, but allows more flexibility for her specific needs? I would agree that keeping the port dry at all times would be difficult. I do know there was a girl with diabeties on our color guard a few years back that had an insulin pump. They had to be careful with her, but she was able to participate and compete at the highest levels. They just had to do a little more planning and making sure she had the right emergency foods around if needed. I would say that the decision for your daughter needs to be talked through with the director/color guard director and you and your daugher and probably some sort of medical professional..(there may be some product that is available that would help keep the port clean- or not) , One think I've realized with parenting teens... i have to keep from having knee jerk reactions and be able to calmly list the step by step process of how and where my decision came from- when I have to give them bad news and not let them do something they want to do- that would under normal circumstances be ok. good luck!
  20. College park won’t switch since it’s their homecoming dance that night- and on their schedule they specifically state there will be no performance. The Woodlands have a football game that day, so I can’t see them switching- they already will be missing a game for BOA San Antonio- I cant see them missing two games. Oakridge may switch, The Klein schools are pretty much halfway between the two sites- so it probably depends on football schedules for them.
  21. I do love the new format and layout... the one thing I'm missing... and it might be that I just haven't found it, but before I could click on the unread messages and it would take me to the spot in the thread- where the new messages started... now it seems it just puts me to the start of the thread and I have to figure out where the new messages start in the last or next to last page of the thread.
