A shootout between which bands? Let's get some predictions and discussion going!!!
I think United will take it followed by Hanna. After that it could be Alexander, San Benny, PSJA, or Los Fresnos.
I've seen almost everyone perform. Some might play okay, but darn, some of these shows are BORING. A few of these bands have extend sections of their shows where THEY DON'T PLAY. One school starts with almost 2 minutes without a sound from the full ensemble.
Take out all the stand and play with body wiggles, or stand and play then run to the new set, or the mega-loud electronics with sub drops, and what does that leave with some of these boring shows?
The bands at the top will have high demand with a well crafted show.
Who has the most enjoyable music?
real stuff you just said

I just saw a video from del rio, i’m gonna be completely honest, i personally feel they have 1st place right now. they are playing some really hard repertoire.
would not be surprised in the slightest. they've consistently had a gorgeous ensemble sound

How many bands go to finals this year?
i think when it’s less than 15 bands only 7 make finals.

I saw a video of Alexander’s band and Hanna’s and so far, Hanna just looks and sounds cleaner and stronger… that being said, it is early in the season and Alexander always puts on a good show
i can definitely see Hanna being more UIL oriented, and JBA more BOA. not bc they chose to be, but just seems to be the nature of their shows. that being said i take back my first draft of predictions, and agree Hanna will probably win it all.

i want to agree, but it's only three schools this time
i want to agree, but it's only three schools this time. i know san benito wants to reach the point that they've been at before. weslaco and psja have risen to recent success. hanna probably has the most well rounded music program in south texas. the laredo bands kind of caught fire when the valley was on a downswing, but now it really feels like the field has evened out. not a knock on anyone (especially cause i was part of that fire lol) just trying to be objective as possible.

Is it just me or has there been a lack of South Texas Band discussion?
nah it's always been that way. They just haven't reached a point of relevancy, though jba was certainly on their way.

I really suggest you take a step back with your comments. They’re dangerously bitter and unnecessarily spiteful.
you’re right, there was no need for me to criticize the on-field product. in retrospect, i was using it as ethos for my argument, though the kids deserve nothing but praise for the hours they’ve poured into their show. my drastic reach for objectivity was blinded by the subjective nature of this art form and for that i’m truly sorry.

It's really the tale of area g, people are mad at results cause of how much the judges are not on the same page, a good example was last year where psja got 1st in visual and 9th in visual for finals. the judging at area is inherently flawed(everywhere not just area g) and things need to be done to fix it, whether that be the removal of the caption switch or a review of why a judge scored the way they did, whatever needs to be done.
a reviewing committee is precisely what i had in mind. i’m glad we found common ground.
