    something that missed the list:

    - If you want to have a blast at a contest (BOA San Antonio especially) plan a tailgate between prelims and finals.  At San Antonio you can't leave the parking lot without paying to re-enter, get with a few of your band friends and have a gathering in the parking lot.

This block has been the best consistent stretch of marching band performances I've ever seen from high school students.

Flower Mound: Best run of the season by far!!! You could hear the crowd multiple times when they would do one of their little cool things with props or soloist! But I mean wow that was so good!

I'm glad to see Argyle take a big step like this! I got the chance to be in multiple contests that they were in, including Sounds of Fall, UIL Area, and UIL State! I'll always remember when we finished 2nd to them in 2018 at Area, and to think that Melissa and Argyle were the top 2 for a bit in 2020 and 2021 😆! Congratulations to Argyle and here is to the next step of a triumphant journey!

that is my concern - they may drag it out. but since we host the event we could do it anyway off the field and make it a Texas award that is not sanctioned by them. I had a conversation with the MFA CEO at BOA-SA so we are on track for next year. Just gotta get the details ironed out - but I will make this happen.
My point is that it is being done by the host program that provides more than 350 volunteers with more than 2,500 volunteer hours over a 4 day period to make the BOA San Antonio the best run event outside of Indy - If the other Super Regionals want to play then they can do the same and pay - it is not a cheap process to create a trophy similar to the Kevin trophy.
Texas needs their own Trophy - every year we hear "if only the BOA SA winner went to Grand Nats this year" - or maybe we create a BOA Governors Cup Trophy   - there are many ways to skin a cat.
Will keep you all posted - I have a designer working on the trophy as we speak.

So glad Argyle has decided to enter the BOA world! They had such great sounds and those soloists, especially the flutes, are super talented! Loved the autumn theming and uniforms and hope they continue to pursue the BOA avenue in the future!

Ughhhh Flower Mound is so good. The visual execution is top freaking notch. Always my favorite from a design perspective. I think I’ve said this before, but their guard has weathered their director change completely seamlessly. My only nitpick is that I think the fabric over the box is kindof an eyesore.

Flower Mound really knows how to theme with their productions. Superband was something I wasn't into very much when I first saw it, but over this season I've grown to really like this show. Musically there is some difficult articulation and runs that they pull off flawlessly, and visually they're just super clean. Love the box sets at the end converging into a single curve across the entire field and building into that epic ending!

I love the stormy sounding preshow in Flower Mound before they burst out of the box. The music is similarly stormy at first, but moves briskly to and from the heroic. Lots of conflict followed by heroic resolution. There's something very comfy about this show, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It reminds me of some of the best late 90s and early 00s programs -- of course the PCEP programs are the first that come to mind. Flower Mound has the same designers. It almost makes me nostalgic. I also absolutely adore the comic strip set pieces. Inserting your band into the comic book world is such a clever idea. Great, great performance as well. I know I saw them at their first contest and they struggled putting a decent sound on the field that was a decent volume. If they just get some more members and are able to keep getting better with show design they will be in finals for both UIL 5a and BOA SA one day soon.

Wanted to just say congratulations to everyone! This is the best SASR by far!!! Nothing but pure, raw talent was shown today! Texas remains the best state of high school marching band, and will for decades to come! No matter the results, everyone should be proud of what they did today! Go Texas Band!!!!!

That's actually an amazing idea and a great way to honor the previous (and future) SASR champions, can't imagine anyone at BOA objecting to it. Props to the CTJ people for getting the ball rolling on this!

So I have seen a number of comments this year about a Texas Trophy for the winner of BOA San Antonio.
The Bands of Claudia Taylor Johnson Foundation and the CTJ Band Parents Assc. serve as the host program of the BOA San Antonio Super Regional.  While it will not happen this year, the bands of CTJ Foundation has made the request to MFA/BOA to create a traveling trophy similar to the grand nationals eagle (Kevin) Trophy.
I hope that we can have this in place for next years BOA San Antonio Super Regional.
I have heard a number of suggestions for the trophy to include the "armadillo" and the "road runner" - there is interest in UTSA in sponsoring the Texas Road Runner trophy but I will keep you all posted as this develops.
It would be my intent that, that the trophy would recognize the previous winners of BOA San Antonio since it became a Super Regional on November 1st 2003 (FYI - San Antonio was the first Super Regional). those would include the following
2003 - Westfield 2004 - Reagan 2005 - Reagan 2006 - LD Bell 2007 - Marcus 2008 - LD Bell 2009 - LD Bell 2010 - Marcus 2011 - LD Bell 2012 - Marcus 2013 - The Woodlands 2014 - Claudia Taylor Johnson 2015 - Flower Mound 2016 - Flower Mound 2017 - Claudia Taylor Johnson 2018 - Flower Mound 2019 - Reagan 2020 - Cancelled due to Covid 2021 - Hebron once we have support of MFA/BOA, we will create a poll to decide the name of the trophy - including the nickname of the trophy - FYI - the Woodlands is credited with naming the Eagle as Kevin after hosting him in 2013.
    welcome your thoughts.

    Bitter, party of one!
There isn't a single band in Finals that isn't excellent.
You will see many of the same bands in Finals on Tuesday and the UIL system is very different from BOA. These bands excel under both systems because they are among the best high school bands in the country.

Not sure how I feel about Flower Mound this year.

I'm supposed to believe the mighty heroes at FloMo would see villains in their midst and not immediately take them out? But instead have a woodwind feature with them? Unfathomable.

I'm kidding, that was my favorite show of the day, hands down! Fun, creative, and full of commitment from the students!

Flower Mound was absolutely stellar. suuuuch projection of style right away when they come out of the box, fun PCEP 01 reference btw. suuuper clear performance. nobody does that folding full band symmetric drill as well. hahaha. middle a little slow, but they close out STRONG. i'd maybe have them hanging w/ Vandy. then the NEISD bands. then Vista/Cedar Ridge. then line up the other contenders and throw some darts, but aim the first one at Westlake. hahaha. it's just soooo competitive.
edit: i forgot Cedar Park. put them in the Ridge cluster. hahaha.

    WAY TO GO FLOMO!!!

Love their concept, the music is great. I do think the drill lacks character but they will not have any problems performing well in finals and State.

Flower Mound is always one of my favorites. Just so consistently creative. The drill lacked a bit of variety for me (a bit too blocky) but I’m nitpicking! Guard is still fantastic after their director change.

What a way to end day 1! Great show from Flower Mound, always giving you entertaining visuals and oozing with pure musicality. I absolutely love their version of Daughtery's Red Cape Tango! It's only 2nd to Plymouth-Canton's version from 1999.
