  1. Super proud of Richland. I was in the Richland band that missed Area finals 3 years ago. That was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen. Those Freshman are Seniors now. Few things are as magical as going to state, and I'm glad that they're going to get that experience.
  2. I'm not sure why so many people have Richland on their lists. They're not attending
  3. I attended and was in the Richland band recently so I might be able to shed a little light on it. Richland just absolutely killed it in finals. I've never seen anything like that out of Richland. They looked like a top tier band like you would see out of the top 3 at a super regional or something. Their brass was incredibly powerful, much more so than Marcus. Their DCI instructors are starting to show through. I totally could not believe my eyes and ears. It wasn't a judging anomaly or anything, they just popped off an incredible show. They have an incredibly demanding show that is hard to make happen and in finals they absolutely made it happen. Richland's rise has to do with a couple things. In the past few years Richland has oversized their band. They had Freshmen marching who weren't ready and by the end of the year they always had multiple holes they couldn't fill. They had people switching and fudging instruments to make it work. This year they cut back on their drill numbers, they actually have a decent amount of non-varsity members, and it's made them a million times cleaner. They also hired a show design coordinator for the first time ever, and have new drill and music writers who are doing an amazing job.
  4. Richland really just got killed in individual marching. Over 2 points lower than anything else
  5. I think the easiest way to fix the judging would be to reverse the procedure they have now. Drop the highest and lowest scores (or even just the lowest) scores to get the results. Bring them back in if you need to break a tie. Every scoring issue I've seen this year centered around one score from one judge that was way off.
  6. That scoring is thoroughly messed up. I almost want to see a comparative line graph of the prelims scores. Judge one dropped off so fast. I wonder if the results would be more normal if they dropped the highest and lowest.
  7. We're going to see LD Bell and Richland come in with a chip on their shoulder. I expect higher than usual placements from both of them.
  8. Wow, a night of surprises. I don't think anyone predicted that
  9. When we did it in 2012, we went to BOA SA on Saturday morning, came back Saturday night/Sunday Morning, and then left again Monday during the school day and came back Wednesday during the school day.
  10. Richland's music scores were 940, 900, and 550.
  11. My only prediction, is that all of Area B will make finals.
  12. I think I know which judge you're talking about, because one of Richland's visual scores was 16th in Prelims.
  13. I think a sort of industrial show centered around "Foundry" would be awesome. I played foundry at UIL in 8th grade.
  14. My favorite slow movement of all time, and arguably the most effective, is from Richland in 2005. It was the highlight of the show in my opinion.
  15. Man, huge results shakeup between prelims and finals. I didn't realize it was that different.
