  1. My personal predictions for finals placements: 1. Vandegrift 2. Vista Ridge 3. Westlake 4. Lake Travis 5. Brandeis 6. O’Connor 7. Del Rio 8. Brennan 9. Stevens 10. Steele First out of finals: Harlan HS I will be rooting for all of the NISD bands there, as usual.

  3. Correct, this is only the tentative schedule. This is the maximum number of bands that could potentially be present at Area.
  4. The 6A Area H Contest will be held on Saturday, October 29 in Converse, TX. There are 21 6A bands in this area. Assuming every band earns a 1 at Region, 4 bands will advance to State. This is the tentative draw for prelims (region numbers in parentheses): 1. East Central (11) 2. Harlan (29) 3. Clemens (11) 4. John Jay (29) 5. Stevens (29) 6. Brennan (29) 7. Westlake (32) 8. Eagle Pass (11) 9. Clark (29) 10. Del Rio (11) 11. Marshall (29) 12. Lake Travis (32) 13. O’Connor (29) 14. Brandeis (29) 15. Judson (11) 16. Vandegrift (32) 17. Holmes (29) 18. Warren (29) 19. Taft (29) 20. Vista Ridge (32) 21. Steele (11) Performance times can be found in the attached file. What are our predictions? Will we see a top 4 of Region 32 bands? Will a NISD band advance to State for the first time since 2014? How will Finals look? 1_6a_area_h_tentative_schedule_9-2-2022.pdf
  5. I’m very biased because I teach at a high school in Northside ISD but I’m rooting for Brandeis to take the gold again this year. I’m also rooting for OC as well.
  6. James Miculka is currently the fine arts director for NISD. Definitely not an easy job in a district with over 100,000 students.
  7. The Northside Independent School District is the largest school district in San Antonio and has 11 (soon to be 12) band programs that compete in UIL Class 6A. In the past, many of these programs have had success at the regional and state levels (Marshall, Taft, O’Connor, Brennan, Clark and Holmes have all qualified for State at least once). However, no NISD band has qualified for State since 2014. Additionally, no NISD band has competed nationally in at least the last 25 years (if ever). I’m curious to know why this is because there’s a lot of untapped potential here. The district is growing rapidly every year and it’s only a matter of time until another band makes State again or goes to Grand Nats.
  8. The Woodlands is seriously looking to win another Eagle. Major Blue Devils vibes from their show. The guard can easily hang with the best in the country.
  9. Leander and Vista just killed it! Also loved Pecos’s exhibition show (I have a soft spot for extra small bands).
  10. Westwood is in the bottom half of SA finals for me. They really fought for that last qualifying spot yesterday and I expect them to keep fighting for the remainder of the season.
  11. Truly the end of an era, but the fact that they were able to sustain that streak for so long really shows the strength of the program in general.
  12. https://www.smbc.uiltexas.org/area/results/files/area-21_6A Area H.pdf Full prelims and finals ordinals for those who are interested.
  13. A disappointing night for Brandeis I’m sure (being the alternate for the third state year in a row), but props to Harlan, Stevens and Brennan for representing NISD very well in finals. Harlan in particular is going to have a very bright future for such a young program. Props to Del Rio and Steele as well. Congrats to the bands that advanced!
  14. As a UTSA SOSA alumni I love seeing them perform in exhibition.
  15. See I thought for sure Taft would at least be in the bottom half of finals. That’s unfortunate for them to miss again, but hopefully one of the NISD bands in finals will pull through and qualify for state.
  16. Watch Harlan make it over both of them out of nowhere in finals
  17. It could possibly be one of them in 4th in prelims and the other one in 4th in finals.
  18. My predictions for finals as of right now: 1. Reagan 2. CTJ 3. Cedar Ridge 4. Round Rock 5. Westwood 6. Churchill 7. Hays 8. McNeil 9. Smithson Valley 10. New Braunfels I truly feel like Churchill has a really good chance at making it this year for the first time in a long time. Slots 5-10 are all kind of a toss up, and the last 2 spots advancing to State are going to be in heavy contention.
  19. The past few years since the director change Harlingen has been having a harder time. At Area in 2018, they were 10th in prelims and made a huge jump to 5th in finals, the last band to advance to state. At State, they were 40th out of 41, their lowest placement yet. The show is looking good this year so they have a good chance at finals.
  20. Taft’s prelims time slot giving me 2014 war flashbacks 😨
